Toyota is planning a new sedan between the Etios and the Corolla. The new sedan that will be making it to India will be based on a global platform. This is likely to be the new-generation of the Vios.

N Raja, senior vice president, sales division, Toyota Kirloskar Motor stated, “Our priority is to keep our customers with us. We have given feedback to our parent company. They have identified the gap between Etios and Corolla Altis, which is huge. They are working on bridging this gap.

The new sedan will be made on a platform that will be used for Asia Pacific region. “We will study the market thoroughly and bring out new models as and when necessary.

” He mentioned that there will be no SUV from Toyota that will be competing with the Ford Ecosport and the Maruti Vitara Brezza.

“Our parent (Toyota Motor Corp, Japan) is working on a new sedan model. Normally, any model development and launch will take 3-4 years time,” he added in his quote. The Indian mid-size sedan segment is dominated by Japanese products like the Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, followed by the Hyundai Verna. Toyota’s Etios hasn’t been able to give the Japanese brand that great response and the company  had even spoken of a mid-size sedan two years ago as well.

At the moment, the Vios facelift has just been unveiled in China and the generation is due to come in 2018. Toyota India has also given its feedback for this new sedan to suit the Indian road conditions.

We had spotted the current generation Vios being tested in India.
