Mahindra XUV700 CNG!

This 7-seater was a great package for someone looking for performance, safety, comfort and features. However, many XUV700 owners did have a complaint: the mileage.

The XUV700 was introduced with two engine options – a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel. And the 197bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine was quite a gas guzzler. However, we might have just found a solution to this problem. We have come across a unique Mahindra XUV700 with India’s favourite fuel option – CNG. So how does it affect the performance and fuel economy? Let’s find out!

Mahindra XUV700 CNG-

One enthusiastic XUV700 owner has fitted his Petrol AX7 model with a retrofitted CNG kit from the CNG-fitting company – Saifuel Vadodara. But how did they manage to fit a CNG in the 700?

To make this possible, the company has installed specific injectors into the engine bay, which remain hidden under the engine cover. In addition, a 12 kg CNG tank is fitted in the car’s boot. No mileage figures are specified yet. But the fuel efficiency of 13-15 kmpl for the petrol engine is expected to go up to 20-25 kg/km.

On the outside, nothing has changed; you can barely guess that it is equipped with a CNG kit. The only time you realise that it is a CNG is when you open the tailgate to spot a gigantic fuel tank. The XUV700 never had much luggage room in the first place, and now with the cylinder, the boot space is non-existent, unless you fold down the last row. But that is the sacrifice you make for better fuel efficiency. Do you think fitting a CNG kit on the XUV700 makes sense? Let us know your thoughts below.
