The Aprilia SR 150 scooter was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. This scooter is now launched in the Indian market and is a first in many aspects. The Aprilia SR 150 scooter is manufactured in India. This is the first Aprilia product to be manufactured in the country. The new SR 150 scooter is being built at the Piaggio plant at Baramati, Maharashtra. The Vespa range of scooters are also manufactured in the same plant. Aprilia SR 150 Design

The Aprilia SR 150 has a typical European styling which is contemporary. The sporty styling of the SR 150 scooter is aimed at youngsters. The front portion has the headlight embedded into it and the turn indicators are located on the handle bar. The black white and red colour combination looks very attractive.

It has a sharply raking rear portion which has sleek panels. The taillamp is neatly integrated int0 the tailpiece and it has a two piece grab rail above it.

The rear mudguard has the turn indicators mounted on it and this gives it a similar look of a motorcycle. The seat is broad and comfortable for both rider and pillion. The color combination of black and red is interesting. This scooter also features metallic black alloy wheels which look very sporty.

The room in the front foot well is just adequate and there is also a foldable hook to hang carry bags etc. This adds to good utility. The thick telescopic forks and the large 14-inch diameter wheels, both at the front and the rear, make this scooter look aggressive  and it would look like nothing similar on the road.

The instrument console is quite simple and has a twin pod analogue unit for the speedometer, fuel gauge and odometer alongwith other tell tale lights.

It is termed the “sports-scooter” bike. The company says, the SR 150 has been designed to reflect the vehicle’s multiple features. The “beak type” design in the front with the headlamp is said to showcase the scooter’s off-roading capabilities. The scooter also gets an underseat storage compartment, twin-circle analog instrument cluster, furthermore alloy grab handles for the pillion and a flat footbed for the rider.The instrument cluster is simple with twin dials for the speedometer and fuel gauge. It has decent storage space under the seat. A half helmet can fit into the cavity under the seat.

Aprilia SR 150 Engine

The Aprilia SR150 has a 154cc, four stroke, air cooled engine. This engine makes a power of 11.4bhp @ 7000rpm and a maximum torque of 11.5Nm@5500rpm. The SR 150 is rear-wheel driven via a CVT transmission. The Aprilia SR 150 has a fuel tank capacity of six-litres while seat height is 775mm. This scooter is powerful. However, it does not shoot off instantly, but builds up speed briskly on the move. The SR 150 has a smooth engine and enthusiasts will love the way it delivers power.

There are a bit of vibrations felt at idle but they iron out as soon as the scooter gets in motion. It is one of quickest to shoot off on traffic signals and bring a smile on the rider’s face. The SR 150 reaches the 80km/h mark in no time. It goes on further to touch triple digit speeds, a phenomenon not much known in scooters in our country.

The scooter employs telescopic front forks and monoshock unit at the back to handle for the suspension. The ride on this one is on the stiff side. Being a sporty scooter, it is certainly not the best one to ride over bad roads or undulations. But what the stiff suspension does is provide fantastic handling. The wheels and tyres make a big difference to the way this scooter handles. It weighs around 122 kgs. The weight is proportionately spread. The SR 150 comes with a disc brake setup at the front and drum brake at the rear. Excellent brakes I must say.

Aprilia SR 150 Mileage

The Aprilia SR 150 returns a fuel efficiency of 35-40 km/l, overall. In traffic conditions, it returns around 35km/l and the highways it returns around 40 km/l, depending upon one’s riding style. The Aprilia SR 150 currently has no competition in the country.

The Aprilia SR 150 is priced at INR 75,000 (on-road, Pune). The SR 150 the most affordable scooter from Aprilia for the Indian market. The pricing of this scooter is bang on and has customers queuing up to buy this one. This time Piaggio has the strategy right and don’t be surprised to rather see quite a sizable number of SR 150 scooters on the road soon.
