10. Maruti Suzuki WagonR

The Maruti WagonR has always been a lock in such lists. The demand for fleet vehicles and affordable hatchbacks remains high despite the flurry of new SUVs. Compared with sales in November, it experienced a very small decline. It sold 14,575 units in December, just 43 units fewer than in November. This suggests that the demand for the WagonR remains consistent as ever.

The WagonR costs between Rs 5.85 Lakh and Rs 8.50 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The WagonR offers spacious interiors, superior fuel economy, and a decent feature list that includes 6 airbags, a reverse parking camera, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, at an affordable price, which is one of the main reasons for its strong sales figures.

9. Mahindra Scorpio

Interestingly, this is the only Mahindra car on the list. Sales of the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic are still going strong, despite new launches in the segment. Mahindra sold almost 15,885 units of the Classic and N combined. In fact, it witnessed a modest rise of about 200 units over November, yet dropped 2 spots on the leaderboard. Another thing to note is that the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic are the only mid-sized SUVs in the list. The Scorpio brand outsold the Creta by more than 2,500 units.

The pricing for the Scorpio N ranges from Rs 15.86 Lakh to 29.49 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai), while the Classic starts at Rs 15.97 Lakh and the top variant costs Rs 20.46 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The rugged nature of the Scorpio Classic makes it a favourite in rural areas. The Scorpio N’s USP is the feature list and road presence. With the Scorpio N, you get Level-2 ADAS, 360-degree parking camera, panoramic sunroof, etc. Furthermore, the 2.2L mHawk Diesel and the 2.0L mStallion Petrol are quite popular in the segment.

8. Tata Punch

Tata Punch saw a significant drop in sales and ranking over December. The Punch was just 20 units shy of the 16,000 sales mark. This figure is more than 2,750 units less than that of November. The reason for this could be the imminent launch of the Punch facelift. Many customers were aware of the facelift and decided to postpone their plans to get the Punch. We could see a surge in sales once the new Punch is launched.

The Tata Punch costs between Rs 6.39 Lakh and Rs 10.63 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). With the Punch, you get features like a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, push-button start, a sunroof, and more. Tata will be updating this feature list with the upcoming facelift.

7. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga

The Ertiga is the only MPV in this list. It sold more than 16,500 units last month, a 2.4% increase over November. The demand for the Ertiga primarily comes from fleet vehicles and people seeking the utmost practicality on a tight budget.

The Ertiga feature list includes 6 airbags as standard, a rear parking camera, electronically adjustable ORVMs, cruise control, and other features you expect from an MPV. The main selling points of the Ertiga remain its pricing and great fuel efficiency. The Ertiga range starts from Rs 10.30 Lakh and goes up to Rs 15.33 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

6. Maruti Suzuki Brezza

The Brezza experienced a pleasant December. Its sales rose by more than 15% when compared to November. It selling more than 17,700 units puts it 3rd on the best-selling compact SUV list, and it ousts the newly updated Hyundai Venue. Maruti is planning a facelift for the Brezza in 2026, and we could see sales bloom further with it.

The Brezza feature list includes a 360-degree parking camera, an electric sunroof, a head-up display, wireless charging and a 9-inch infotainment screen. It misses out on features like ADAS and ventilated seats, but people still continue to buy it for its fuel-efficient engine. The pricing is also on the more expensive side and costs between Rs 9.68 Lakh and Rs 15.42 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

5. Maruti Suzuki Swift

In November, the Swift was Maruti’s best-selling hatchback. But sales have declined slightly in December. It sold 18,767 units last month, which is a 5% decline from the month before. However, the Swift’s strong figures suggest that the premium hatchback segment remains desirable to customers.

With the Swift, Maruti has introduced the 1.2L 3-cylinder Z12 engine. The notable thing about this petrol engine is its efficiency figures. The claimed fuel economy is 25 kmpl. The pricing is attractive as well, starting at Rs 6.83 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The top model, with all the bells and whistles like wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, 9-inch touchscreen, etc, can go up to Rs 10.30 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

4. Maruti Suzuki Dzire

The Dzire was Maruti’s best-selling car of 2025, and it finished the year strong with more than 19,000 units sold. Throughout last year, it maintained a top-5 spot on this list. It dropped 2 spots and sold 2,000 fewer units than in November, but the sales figure is still commendable. It is the only sedan in the top 25 best-selling cars of December. Many people still desire a compact sedan, especially as fleet vehicles, and with low competition in the segment, it continues to do well in these lists.

The Dzire starts at Rs 7.37 Lakh and the Zxi+ trim can go up to Rs 10.89 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The feature list is rather basic and includes a sunroof, cruise control, wireless charging, etc. Like with the Swift, the main selling point of the Dzire is its fuel-efficient Z-series engine.

3. Tata Nexon

The Nexon held the throne for the best-selling car in November. Unfortunately, it was dethroned in December and saw sales decline. It sold 19,375 units in December, a 14% decline from the previous month. It ended the year as the best-selling Tata vehicle, and we expect the Nexon to sell in such good numbers throughout 2026 as well. Furthermore, the sales figures also include EV sales.

The Nexon is arguably one of the most feature-loaded cars in the segment. The list includes a 10.25-inch driver’s display, ventilated front seats. an air purifier, a 360-degree parking camera, and an ADAS suite. Pricing starts at Rs 9.21 Lakh, and the top trim goes up to Rs 17.06 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

2. Maruti Suzuki Fronx

This may come as a surprise, but the Fronx was the best-selling SUV of December. It saw a whopping 37.5% increase in December (compared to November). A reason for this success could be the heavy discounts Maruti is offering on most of their vehicles. It crossed the 20,000 unit mark and was the 2nd car to do so. These sales are particularly surprising after the news of its poor ANCAP results.

The Fronx comes with a cheaper price tag when compared to the Tata Nexon. The cost ranges between Rs 8.01 Lakh and 14.09 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). It comes with a 1.2L petrol engine as standard, and the high-end variants get an exciting 1.0L turbo-petrol engine. The feature list includes cruise control, wireless charging, sunroof and a 9-inch touchscreen. The Fronx is also due for a facelift, and Maruti plans to improve the feature list with this update. Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce their all-new series hybrid system with the Fronx facelift.

1. Maruti Suzuki Baleno

It may not be shocking to see a Maruti at the top of the list, but the Baleno topping the list could be. In November, it didn’t even make the top 10, yet it led sales in December. The Baleno witnessed a whopping 8,324-unit increase in sales over November, amounting to a massive 60% increase. The exact sales figure for its sales in December was 22,108. The Baleno indicates that the premium hatchback segment remains attractive to many customers despite the plethora of SUVs on the market. Even the Toyota Glanza, a rebadged Baleno, sold in decent numbers and was Toyota’s 3rd-best-selling car.

The pricing starts at Rs 7.03 Lakh, and the Alpha automatic trim goes up to Rs 10.57 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). You get a similiar feature list to the Swift, including 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, cruise control, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, etc. The powertrain options are slim: only a 1.2L petrol engine is offered, along with 2 gearbox options. The fuel efficiency of the 1.2L petrol and the practical interiors have been the reasons for its success.
