5. Toyota Kirloskar Motors

It seems like an eternity since Toyota updated its lineup. But looking at their sales, their car lineup doesn’t need to change much. Toyota enjoyed a healthy 13.5% sales growth in December (compared to November). The sales grew from 30,000 to 34,000 units over the last 2 months. The Toyota Hyryder and the Innova (Crysta and Hycross) have been leading Toyota’s sales. While the Fortuner is the brand’s most popular car, it profits more from the other two cars. The Japanese manufacturer also makes cars like the Vellfire, Land Cruiser, Hilux, and Camry, but its customer base is small and doesn’t boost sales much.

4. Hyundai

Hyundai has been trying to get to that second spot on the leaderboard. Hyundai sold nearly 42,500 units in December, about 15% fewer than in November. Despite the announcements of the Tata Sierra and the Kia Seltos facelift, Creta has been selling in decent numbers over the past few months. These numbers may have taken a slight hit as the launch of the competitors nears. Nevertheless, Hyundai will continue its pursuit of the second spot in 2026 by unveiling new models like the Bayon and Inster EV, along with facelifts for the Tucson, Ioniq 5, and Verna.

3. Tata Motors

As far as sales are concerned, Tata had a rough December. Not only did sales fall, but it also lost its spot as the 2nd-best-selling manufacturer in India to Mahindra. The reason for this could be the launch of the Sierra. People are eagerly awaiting the launch of the Sierra and have thus temporarily halted their search for an SUV. The Sierra racked up to racked up more than 70,000 bookings on its first day, and Tata could claim the number 2 spot very soon after its launch. In December, Tata sold around 50,000 units which is a 13% drop from November. Tata Nexon and Punch have been the best-selling cars for Tata throughout 2025 and are responsible for the majority of the 50,000 units sold.

2. Mahindra & Mahindra

Mahindra experienced a bittersweet December. It claimed the second place on the sales leaderboard. Mahindra edged out Tata for the second spot, selling 900 units more than the rival. While it may have gotten a boost in the rankings, the sales dropped significantly. Sales are down from 56,336 to 50,046 units, a reduction of almost 10%. The main culprit is the launch of the XUV7XO. People realised there would be an update for the XUV700 and preferred to wait until January to get the new 7XO. These sales are expected to improve with the launch of the 7XO. At the same time, the Scorpio, Bolero and Thar keep selling in good numbers.

1. Maruti Suzuki

To no one’s surprise, Maruti Suzuki won the race for the best-selling manufacturer. The victory was by a landslide, and it sold more than three times as many cars as the second-place. Maruti sold more than 1.7 lakh units last month, a 4-5% improvement over November sales. The reason for this increase is the discounts Maruti is offering on some of their cars. For instance, you get more benefits of more than RS 2.5 lakh on the Grand Vitara. The cars that make up the majority of their sales are the Swift, WagonR, Ertiga, and Dzire. Its other models, such as the Grand Vitara, Victoris, Fronx, Baleno, and Brezza, have also experienced a surge in sales in recent times.

Other Brands

You would be surprised not to see Kia on the above list. That is because Kia experienced the greatest decline in sales between November and December of almost 27%. The obvious reason is the upcoming Seltos facelift, XUV7XO and Sierra. The competition in the C-Segment has affected Kia the most. With the recent Venue updates, even Sonet sales have taken a hit. Another notable manufacturer from the list is Volkswagen, which experienced a 27% rise in December.
