With a new nameplate, the XUV 7XO has also received a great deal of cosmetic upgrades. The front fascia of the SUV has been tweaked thoroughly with a new headlight setup, sharper LED DRLs, a new grille design, a revised front bumper, and much more. Towards the rear, the SUV gets a new taillight design along with a black plaque across the boot. Moreover, the rear bumper design has also been tweaked, and there is black cladding all around the car to give it a unique design. One of the key highlights is the new 19-inch wheels, which have an aero design. That said, Mahindra has put some work into the new XUV 7XO. However, the audience’s reaction to the design is mixed. What do you think of the new design? Let us know!

Tata Safari Exterior

The Tata Safari, on the other hand, has always been a good-looking SUV. The latest petrol update did not really bring in any cosmetic changes. However, Tata did offer a new Red Dark version. The Safari has an imposing stance and continues to turn heads on the streets.

Mahindra XUV 7XO Vs Tata Safari – Interior

Mahindra XUV 7XO Interior

The new XUV 7XO gets a massive overhaul on the inside and closely resembles the recently launched XEV 9S. To set it apart from the EV, the XUV 7XO gets a brown and beige dual-tone interior. This theme adds a more premium and sophisticated touch to the interior. The dashboard design is well laid out, and the fit and finish seem premium.

Safari Red Dark Interior

On the other hand, the Safari gets multiple interior themes, including all-black (Dark or Stealth Edition), White, and Tan (Adventure variants). However, with the new Red Dark edition, the Safari also gets the option of a Red and black interior, giving it a more sporty feel. The dashboard is not cluttered, and the material quality around the cabin is pretty good.

Mahindra XUV 7XO Vs Tata Safari – Powertrain & Pricing

Mahindra XUV 7XO Vs Tata Safari - Powertrain & Pricing - engine options

Even though the XUV 7XO gets a plethora of upgrades in design and features, the powertrain has been left untouched. It continues to get 2 engine options: a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine (200bhp & 380Nm) and a 2.2-litre diesel engine (182bhp & 450Nm). Mahindra also offers an AWD version with the diesel mill. Both these engines have been quite popular for their exhilarating performance, and we expect that to remain the same in the newer models.

Tata Safari Petrol engine

On the contrary, Tata has introduced a petrol engine in the Safari, derived from the Sierra. However, the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine makes more power and torque (+10 bhp and +25Nm) than in the Sierra. So, the Safari now produces 168bhp and 280Nm of torque. On the other hand, the diesel engine produces 168bhp and 350Nm of torque.

Compared to the XUV 7XO, the Safari’s petrol and diesel engines feel underpowered on paper at least.

Mahindra has done a great job with the pricing of the XUV 7XO. It is now priced between Rs 16.40 Lakh to Rs 30.38 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). However, we believe that Tata has nailed it with the pricing of the Safari. Thanks to the addition of the petrol engine, Tata has now priced the Safari aggressively with a price tag ranging from Rs 15.77 Lakh to Rs 30.97 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

So which one of these SUVs would you pick?
