In India, reliability is associated with brands like Toyota, and that’s for a reason. Even a used Innova can clock well over 1 lakh km without a breakdown. But this perception is about to change. A manufacturer has claimed that its upcoming SUV’s test car has covered about 10 lakh kilometres. This upcoming SUV from the brand could be the big move, just as it was in 2012.

Duster Into The Extremes:

Ahead of the launch on 26 January 2026, Renault has made a big announcement. The manufacturer stated that the upcoming Duster test mule has covered 10 lakh kilometres. Indians know the Duster for being a rugged SUV. To ensure the new Duster lives up to its legacy, it has undergone extensive testing. Before hitting the Indian Market, Duster has been to the Khardungla Pass, which sits at 18,379 ft above sea level. In the teaser, Duster can be seen navigating water crossings and mountains, standing true to its SUV nature. Also, from the test mules of the Duster spotted on Indian roads, we can ensure its testing is done for urban conditions as well.

10 Lakh Kilometres Of Testing:

The 10 lakh kilometre mark is a combined figure for the upcoming vehicle being tested on test tracks, public roads, and extreme terrains. The manufacturer stated that the SUV has been tested over a temperature range of -23°C to 55°C. Not just in India, Renault has tested the Duster overseas in three different continents.

What To Expect?

The upcoming generation of the Duster is to be based on the UK-based Dacia model. The design is to be identical to the UK model, with slight changes. The modern rugged SUV is expected to be equipped with advanced features, including ADAS, a 360-degree camera, and wireless connectivity. There is no official information on the powertrain to be offered, but Renault is expected to introduce a 1.3L turbo petrol, a 1L turbo petrol, or a 1.5L NA petrol engine. As the global spec comes with the AWD and a Hybrid powertrain, the same can be expected for the upcoming launch.

Launch, Pricings And Rivals:

The official unveiling is scheduled on the 26th of January 2026. The mid-size SUV segment is competitive, and the upcoming Duster is expected to be priced between Rs 14 lakhs and Rs 23 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai). The Hyundai Creta has always been the major competition for the Duster since its launch, and it will remain so today as well. Apart from the Creta, other competitors will be the Kia Seltos, Grand Vitara and Victoris, Toyota Hyryder, and the newest member of the segment, the Tata Sierra.
