New Toyota SUV – Another Exciting Launch?

New Toyota SUV Coming

Many auto enthusiasts in India would be thinking that this new SUV could be the Toyota Prado or the RAV4. Yes, they were spotted in the last year. But sadly, the SUV that we are talking about today is neither of these. So, which is the new Toyota SUV?

Well, Toyota has announced that it will be launching its urban cruiser electric SUV on 19th January. This new model is based on the Maruti e-Vitara, which is put on hold for god knows what reasons. At present, we have already discussed a lot about this upcoming Toyota SUV, and today we will be looking at if it justifies the pricing.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric

At the Bharat Mobility Auto Show, held last year, Toyota showcased its own version of the Maruti e-Vitara, named as Urban Cruiser electric. The new model is another badge engineering product between these two big brands. Moreover, this model will be the first born-electric model from Toyota for the Indian market.

Similar to the Maruti e Vitara, the Toyota’s EV will be underpinned by the Heartect.e platform made for BEVs. Apart from the platform, the Maruti’s and Toyota’s EV share several similarities on the interiors and features – the exterior of both the SUV acts as a major differential.

Talking about the feature list, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV gets a dual-tone interior setup along with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment, 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster, single pane sunroof, ADAS and more in its package.

Mechanically, this EV will be equipped with a 48.8kWh and 61.1kWh battery packs, the latter one offering a range above 500km.

The Toyota’s EV will go up against the Hyundai Creta EV, Vinfast VF6, Mahindra BE 6, Maruti e Vitara, MG Windsor EV, Tata Curvv EV and others. Toyota will not be getting any advantage in the market as there are several EVs on sale in the very segment. That said, one thing that can make people choose this model is pricing. That said, we expect the model to be priced between Rs 17 lakh and Rs 24 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
