Volkswagen has been testing the 1.0-litre TSI engine for Indian climatic conditions. The German automaker is looking at introducing the 1.0-litre TSI on the Polo replacing the currently sold 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine. The sales of the Polo 1.2 has very low, pre-dominantly because of the petrol engine’s performance and even the fuel-efficiency. With the much high sales of the 1.

2 GT TSI, Volkswagen is looking at reviving its petrol engine with a 1.0-litre TSI engine.

Now, the Polo TSI will be coming with a simple stick shift for this engine and it will be offered with a 1.0-litre TSI engine that will produce about 80-85bhp of power. This will make the Polo at par with the competition for the petrol engine’s performance. The 1.0-litre engine will be a lot more fuel-efficient too than the 1.

2-litre.This engine will better NVH too, as the current Polo petrol is louder than the other petrol engine hatches.

Volkswagen might be discontinuing the 1.2-litre petrol engine for Indian operations and it will stick to a 1.0-litre TSI mill. Skoda’s Fabia has been discontinued so there won’t be any use for this 1.2-litre petrol engine. Volkswagen won’t be discontinuing the 1.6-litre petrol engine as the same mill is used by Skoda too on the Rapid. The 1.2-litre TSI engine is only limited to VW brand and Skoda isn’t using it at the moment.

Hence, this could be the reason why the Volkswagen brand will continue with the 1.6-litre petrol and not replace with the 1.2-litre TSI. The new updated Polo model will be getting this new engine. This change could be implemented on to the Volkswagen Ameo as well.

Volkswagen Polo 1.0 Price:
