Royal Enfield Himalayan 350cc Coming?

Royal Enfield Himalayan 350cc

The new GST structure has forced Royal Enfield to hike prices of its popular bikes like Himalayan, Guerrilla, Interceptor, Continental, Bear, Shotgun. This shows a majority of bikes to be outside the low GST zone, unfortunately will hamper the brand’s sales in the long term. As a counter, will RE also think like Bajaj and plan a sub 350cc Himalayan?

The answer straight away here is a ‘No’. According to Autocar, the brand isn’t looking to scale down its 450cc or either the 650cc engines to sub 350cc. On the contrary, the brand has appealed to the government to again restructure the GST rates on 350cc above motorcycles as it will help the brands to scale up. The government is yet to react to this.

That said, the Royal Enfield isn’t planning to include a new 350cc Himalayan in its lineup anytime soon. However, the brand is planning to launch a new 750cc engine, and possibly it will debut with the Himalayan and later will power the Continental and Classic models going forward. The 750cc Himalayan is expected to be unveiled in the next year in the final production guise.

What Else?

Many buyers have been stressed due to the sudden increase in the price of 350cc above motorcycles. Now it remains to see how the government takes measures to solve this problem. During the GST structure announcement, the official authorities claimed to increase the buyer’s potential by reducing the prices. Now, the same is not applicable on the higher cc bikes.

The government must restructure the policy and give a little hope to the buyers. A 350cc shouldn’t be termed as an luxury, however if the government really wants to increase the price then the mark can be shifted from 350cc above to 500cc or 600cc above.
