Royal Enfield Scram 440 – Riding Experience

Royal Enfield Scram 440 – Riding Experience

First of all, the Scram is a good tall bike. You get a good clear vision while riding it. Secondly, even if it looks like a shredded bike, it weighs 196kg (kerb weight). You won’t feel the weight while riding the bike on clear roads – but in the traffic, you will!

While on the highways, it feels like it’s lagging. The engine doesn’t have that punch, unlike other 400cc bikes. But, this bike will please someone who wants to enjoy a good torque figure. The suspension setup is good, you won’t feel the broken roads or potholes – as it glides over them. The riders will also note some vibrations on the footpegs after stretching it over 90kmph, but it is not too extreme.

The riding position is perfect for long rides, you will not be aggressively leaned-in else, nor too laid-back. It’s sure that your back won’t complain after long rides. Even the seats are comfortable, not too hard, nor too soft. The instrument cluster is clean just like the other RE 450’s and displays the needed information.

Now, let’s see if this bike is best-suited for you!

Should You Buy It?

Now, the majority of bikers expect the 400cc bikes to have raw power. For them, this bike might not be a good purchase looking at the fact that the throttle pull will not give them the needed adrenaline rush. Secondly, it’s a tall bike with a hefty weight – so, if you are short and skinny, you might find it difficult to ride in tough spots.

Apart from that, if you need a good cruiser to glide on the highways at a speed of 80-90kmph, then it can be a better option. In fact, the overall motorcycle is good, there isn’t anything not to like about except the power. Even though it lacks power, there’s good low-end torque.  It’s tractable, and riding at 40-45kmph in fifth gear doesn’t feel sluggish. The braking performance is good, to mention the bite of the front brake is excellent.

Certain buyers still crave for a higher fuel efficiency. In that case, the Scram 440 stands tall among the other 400cc motorcycles. While the others give around 18-22kmpl mileage. The Scram 440 delivers a real life mileage of around 28-30kmpl depending on your riding behaviour.

So, is the Royal Enfield Scram 440 a perfect bike for you?
