1. Tyres, Wheels And Suspension – Legal Car Modifications

One of the most common modifications people do is related to the wheels and tyres. While some modify wheels and tyres for looks, a few others do it for better functionality. But yes, modifying your wheels and tyres is legal to some extent. As long as the wheels and tyres don’t protrude from the car’s body, it is completely legal. Tyres are one of the most important parts of your vehicle, and if you are swapping your old ones with better rubber, it will only improve the performance, comfort, and even handling of your vehicle. Moreover, modifying the car’s suspension within manufacturer specs is also legal. So if your car has very stiff or very soft suspension, you can modify it for better ride quality and comfort. There are many aftermarket brands that offer suspension fitment kits for specific models to improve comfort or handling.

Another common modification is painting or wrapping your car. So, what’s legal and what’s not? Well, if you are doing a complete paint job on your car, which does not match your existing exterior paint, you have to get an RTO approval. Moreover, the new exterior colour should also be mentioned on your RC (Registration Certificate). However, if you simply want to repaint the car in the same colour as mentioned in the RC, it is legal. When it comes to body wraps, it is completely legal and does not require an RTO approval.
