Upcoming Tata Cars – Tata Safari EV & Tata Harrier EV

Tata Motors is expected to bring its two big SUVs, the Harrier and the Safari in EV avatars soon. Both these SUVs received a major facelift in 2023 and their EV versions will share similar design cues. In fact we have already seen the Harrier EV concept on two different occasions – 2023 Auto Expo and 2024 Bharat Mobility Show. The concept of the Harrier EV looks very similar to the diesel version but the EV gets a closed-up front grille. And that can be seen with test cars that we spotted. The SUVs were covered with camouflage but couldn’t hide the front profile which is very similar to the regular Harrier & Safari.

Now you may argue these SUVs to be the petrol variants and we totally agree with your point. However, it is said that the EV versions will be launching before the petrol versions of the Harrier and the Safari. The Harrier petrol will likely be launched in the early or mid 2025 while the Harrier EV is expected to be launched by the end of 2024. That said, Tata Motors will be offering these electric SUVs as AWD models. Confirmed to MotoOctane in 2023, the Harrier EV will be the first new-age Tata SUV to comeback as an AWD model. Additionally, these SUVs will be based on the Acti.ev platform and we can expect a real world range of up to 500kms.

Upcoming Tata Cars – Tata Altroz Racer

The other car that was spotted is the upcoming Altroz Racer. We recently shared the leaked details of the launch timeline of the Altroz Racer and today we have the spy shots. Interestingly, the test car of the Altroz Racer was without any camouflage. Spotted in the sporty orange shade, the upcoming hatchback looks identical to the regular Altroz from the outside. New elements include blacked-out bonnet and roof – with racing style white stripes. Towards the side profile we saw similar alloy wheels from the regular Altroz and not something that we saw on the concept car. Other new elements on the outside include a Racer badge on the front fenders and an extended rear spoiler.

Features & Engine Specifications

Unfortunately we couldn’t spot the interior but we can confirm the presence of a new touchscreen system on the test car! It looks like the larger 10.25-inch system which was shown on the concept car. Rest the interior will remain the same as on the regular Altroz. The feature list is expected to be updated with new elements like a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, sunroof, ventilated seats, head-up display, and more! The biggest highlight however will be the new engine. The Altroz Racer will be equipped with Nexon’s 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. This engine produces 118bhp and 170Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. It would be interesting to see if the brand offers the 7-speed DCA in future!

Launch & Price

Tata Altroz Racer is all set to launch during the second/ third week of June 2024. This timeline was further confirmed by the dealership training presentation which was leaked online. What about the pricing? Well, we can expect the Altroz Racer to be priced between Rs 11 lakh to Rs 13 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Once launched, the Altroz Racer will compete with the Hyundai i20 N Line.
