Toyota Fortuner 2017 Exterior

The Toyota Fortuner 2017 looks aggressive. The front grille looks very stylish and the sleek headlamps melds well with it. The fog lamps are basic and round, but the way it has been chiselled, it adds on the glam factor that goes missing otherwise. The Toyota Fortuner 2017 has road presence just like the previous one. This is a sharp looking SUV.

The tail lamps of the Toyota Fortuner 2017 are also sleek and carry forward the same theme at the rear too. The rear spoiler is well integrated in the design. There are aero fins on the tail lamps. The 4×2 models get 17-inch tyres and the 4×4 has 18-inch. This is what makes it look different. With the 17-inch wheels, the tyre seems to leave out some empty space, making it look smaller in size.

The same aggressive and sporty design carries on to the rear. The tail lamps are sleek and LED. There is an integrated spoiler that makes this SUV look large.

In terms of space, there is no compromise on the Toyota Fortuner 2017. The front row has large seat and the space is just perfect. Driver’s seat has electric adjustment.  The second row has good space, comfortable seating however the head room is a bit tight. These seats slide and recline and there are AC vents on the roof. The third row, well if the front seats are moved ahead, there is decent knee room. The head room too is just fine. With all the rows raised, there isn’t much space in the boot. However, the third row folds flat as the seats move on the side. There is no electrically folding for these seats. The tail gate is electric.

Toyota Fortuner 2017 Safety Features

In terms of safety, Toyota Fortuner 2017 has seven airbags and ABS. It has hill assist control and descent assist control. Then there is vehicle stability control too. The previous Fortuner only had 2 airbags on offer. So, this is a major step forward in the right direction.

Toyota Fortuner 2017 Engines

The 2.7-litre petrol of the Toyota Fortuner 2017 has amazing refinement. The engine has decent power. The torque is linear and is a good engine for cruising. This engine is offered with a five-speed manual and six-speed automatic transmission options. It only has a 4×2 variant. This engine is peppy and is a comfortable highway cruiser. One doesn’t needs to pick the diesel unless there is a lot of driving on the cards. The petrol engine will do the job well and it is a lot more affordable also.

The 2.8-litre diesel engine of the Toyota Fortuner 2017 will be the major seller. What is special is its performance. When the turbo kicks at about 1700rpm, there is more than sufficient torque to overtake. One major upgrade is the engine refinement. The cabin insulation and even engine noise has been reduced drastically.  The engine feels peppy and has more than sufficient power. This comes with six-speed manual and automatic transmission options. There are 4×2 and 4×4 variants on offer too. The manual version has iMT option too. This helps to match the engine revs improving the smoothness during shifts.  All the Fortuners even have two modes, Power and Eco. The iMT being the third on the diesel manual.

Toyota Fortuner 2017 Colours

Three of the favourite colours of the Fortuner are retained on the Toyota Fortuner 2017. These are white, silver and grey. We can even expect a black and brown as well. The brand is looking at enhancing the colour palette as it will attract those who are looking at plain jane colours and even getting some premium metallic colours too.

Toyota Fortuner 2017 Mileage

2.8 4×4 Manual 10 km/l
2.8 4×2 Manual 10.5 km/l
2.8 4×2 Auto 10 km/l
2.8 4×4 Auto 9.5 km/l
2.8 Auto 8.5 km/l
2.7 Manual 9.5 km/l
2.7 Auto 8.5 km/l

The Fortuner might be lighter than before and the engines more efficient. But still, the vehicle is heavy and it has big engines. So, there is an increase in the mileage, but the gain isn’t very high. For a vehicle of this size, the fuel-efficiency is good enough.
