Mahindra Nuvosport first drive and on-road price
Mahindra Nuvosport is the third compact SUV from the Indian utility maker’s stable. Mahindra got the new TUV300 and then the KUV100. Now, it is time to introduce the new Nuvosport another SUV that is based on the Scorpio platform and it gets the body of the Quanto, which has been discontinued.
The NuvoSport has been designed and developed in-house by the Mahindra design team, while the research and development of the vehicle has been carried out at the world class Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai. The research and development activities for the NuvoSport were planned with high standards of quality, and accessible technology while ensuring that it met highest standards of safety and emission norms. The Mahindra Nuvosport is the facelift version for the Quanto, and it is based on the same platform.
Mahindra Nuvosport Exterior
The Mahindra Nuvosport looks very contemporary and has catchy looks. It has been designed on a ladder frame. This SUV is under four metres in length and it has an all new face. The front of this compact SUV aggressive at the same time is polished and sophisticated. The front grille is a black hexagonal one with vertical slat. This grille has been derived from the Scorpio and the hood gets an scoop as well, which adds to the muscular look. The headlamps look sharp and there is an LED on the top, which are not part of the headlamp and are stand alone lamps, looking somewhat like eyebrows.
The lower part of the bumper is blackened and this makes the Nuvosport look all new and fresh. The round fog lamps are well integrated within the bumpers. There is a skid plate on the lower part of the bumper which is painted in silver and adds some jazz to the front . The side profile is where it resembles the erstwhile Quanto a lot. It however gets black cladding that makes it look sporty and the last door pillar is also blacked out and it has a smaller tail lamp. The blacked out portion don’t make it look like an overgrown tall boy and keep the look balanced. There is still an integrated spare wheel on the tail gate. The door handles are grab type ones. This is based on the third generation of the Mahindra chassis, which is shared with the new-generation Scorpio.
Mahindra Nuvosport Interiors
The interiors of the Mahindra Nuvosport are all new. Mahindra has upgraded the interiors of this compact SUV as this looks a lot more stylish and trendy. The Nuvosport will be positioned a segment above the TUV300. It will have better interior quality, more features like 6.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with maps, reverse parking camera, bluetooth connectivity, automatic headlamps and rain sensing wipers. The Nuvosport will be launched in India and the company is also looking at exporting this compact SUV as well. The vehicle has decent storage space inside, for bottles and knick-knacks. It also features armrests for the drives and co-passenger.
This is a seven-seater SUV that will come with two parallel rows of seating and the third row will be jump seats. The Nuvosport will be targeting urban SUV buyers and it will be competing with the Ford Ecosport and the Maruti Vitara Brezza. This compact SUV has similar space like the TUV300, however it has more features and even better quality as well. The Nuvosport even gets plush leatherette upholstery, trendy aluminium scuff plates, cruise control and stylish aluminium plates. The boot space is 412 litres and the second row of seas have a recline and even a split of 60:40.
Mahindra Nuvosport Engine
The Mahindra Nuvosport comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine which seems to be the same as the Quanto. It will mostly get a 1.5-litre petrol engine as well. The Nuvosport’s diesel engine produces 100bhp of power and 240Nm of torque, making it more powerful than the existing TUV300. This new engine comes mated to a a five-speed manual gearbox and an AMT option as well. This engine has Eco and Power driving modes, just like we have seen on the KUV100.
What we have liked about the Nuvosport is its drivability. One doesn’t to downshift or change gears that often even while driving in city. The Mahindra Nuvosport has good power to drive in the city and more than sufficient torque to drive in the city. The Nuvosport is one of the most powerful SUV in its segment when it comes to power ratings.

Mahindra Nuvosport: To buy to avoid?
If you are in the market to pick a compact SUV and space is your main criteria. The Nuvosport is the clear choice. It has good features, decent styling and at the same time it is a ladder frame that is a lot more reliable and load and stress bearing than a monocoque chassis. It has the highest seating position and we love the linear power it produces. We will recommend to pick the Nuvosport unless you want something that is light to drive.
Mahindra Nuvosport competition
The Mahindra Nuvosport is a direct competition to the Ford Ecosport and the Maruti Vitara Brezza. This compact SUV will be targeting urban car buyers, while the TUV300 will cater mostly to semi-urban and rural customers.
