The sedan segment has been slowly declining for some years now, with its market share shrinking further to 9.4 percent in CY23. However, more manufacturers are committed to reviving the segment, as they navigate through the treacherous terrains of the Indian auto industry. Honda was the first to do so with the Honda City, which was then joined by Skoda and Volkswagen with their made-in-India models, the Slavia and the Virtus. More recently, Hyundai also joined in with a big update to its sedan, the Verna.

But despite these inroads, Maruti has shied away from updating its popular sedan model, the Ciaz. Last refreshed in 2018, the sale of the four-wheeler is drying out. In this article, we will discuss what to expect from the upcoming Maruti Ciaz.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz: Exterior Design

Ciaz S Exterior

The current generation Maruti Ciaz is a good-looking car, despite its age. The design feels fresh and contemporary compared to its rivals. But for 2024, we expect the four-wheeler to come with a bolder design language, inspired by international models. The new design will include a more dynamic Nexwave grille, sharper lines and an overall wider stance. Additionally, LED lighting may replace the current halogen setup. Overall, the design of the new Ciaz is expected to combine elements from its competitors, the Verna, Slavia, and Virtus.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz: Interior Design

Although the exterior design of the Ciaz has aged well, the interiors are in dire need of an upgrade. The upcoming model is expected to provide premium leather upholstery and soft-touch plastic on all touch surfaces. The new Ciaz might feature dual-tone beige & black leatherette interiors, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, analogue-digital instrument cluster, flat-bottom steering wheel, ambient lighting, full-automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, head-up display, electric sunroof, rear sun blinds, and more.

Despite the update, the Ciaz is expected to maintain its reputation for offering value for money, with features like push-button start, automatic climate, and others coming as standard even in the base variant.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz: Powertrain & Safety

Expect the new Ciaz to come equipped with the upgraded 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech. This new unit is rated for 102 bhp of maximum power output and 137 Nm of peak torque mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic with a paddle shifter. Alongside this powertrain, the company could also introduce the 1.5-litre TNGA hybrid engine or the more economical series hybrid engine that is currently under development.

Safety features on the new model could include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill-hold assist and more. We also expect the Ciaz to come equipped with ADAS functionality which is set to make its debut on the eVX SUV.
