Last month, Tata Motors launched the Tata Punch EV in India. Tata has loaded the micro electric SUV with a huge list of features and technology. Interestingly, the Punch EV offers a similar real world range compared to the Nexon EV. This has been possible due to the new Acti.ev platform on which the Punch EV is based. That said, Tata could update the Nexon EV to be based on the Acti.ev platform in the near future. So what all to expect with the New Gen Nexon EV?

Why Acti.ev?

Now unlike the previous Tata EVs which are based on the modular platform of the ICE versions, Punch EV is based on the Acti.ev platform. It is the second gen platform, specifically designed for EVs for better battery management. The new platform also benefits in impressive cabin space and overall better handling. However, one major advantage of the Acti.ev platform happens to be the range. So while the Nexon EV has a bigger battery than the Punch EV, the range of the Nexon EV is somewhat similar compared to the range of Punch EV. And so, using the new platform for the Nexon EV does make sense for the brand.

New Gen Nexon EV – Will that happen?

According to Anand Kulkarni, Vice President- Tata Passenger Electric Vehicles, the brand will likely migrate the Nexon EV to this new platform. It will be an easy task for the engineers as the Acti.ev is a modular platform which can underpin cars measuring up to 4.6 metres in length. That said, the platform will also accommodate upcoming EV SUVs like the Harrier EV, Curvv EV and the Sierra EV. Migrating the Nexon EV to the Acti.ev platform will result in better range and better space than the current model. Also, we can see a similar or a larger battery pack on the new gen Nexon EV.

What else to expect?

Other than the new platform and battery pack, the new gen Nexon EV will likely remain the same as now. The current model received a major facelift just a few months ago. The facelift has brought major design changes on the inside and outside. In fact it is the new design language that debuted with Nexon and was later seen on the Harrier/Safari facelifts, and the Punch EV. Even in terms of features the Nexon EV is no less. It gets a premium looking cabin along with futuristic elements like 12.3-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and touch panel for the AC controls. However, the new platform will also help the brand to offer a frunk storage option.

New Gen Nexon EV – Launch timeline

Although shifting the Nexon EV to the Acti.ev platform seems to be an easy process, the brand will have to test the SUV extensively. Other than that, Tata Motors will also stay busy with the planned launches of the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV which are set to debut this year. All in all, the new gen Nexon EV can be expected to launch by late 2025 or early 2026.
