2017 Nissan Micra Gen5 has been unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. This is the new-generation hatchback that will be unveiled. Nissan has released a teaser image of this new hatchback. The hatchback is based on the new CMF (Common Family Module) platform from the Renault-Nissan alliance and is expected to be launched globally by end of this year. The new Micra will replace the current model that is based on the old V platform. 2017 Nissan Micra Design

The 2017 Nissan Micra will be designed on the Sway concept that was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show. Nissan states that the Sway has been designed to shake up the compact hatchback segment, traditionally a conservative sector of the market. With its swooping lines, striking nose, elegantly simple interior and bold use of sophisticated colours, the concept is a daring and emotional design.

The new Micra has an aggressive styling which a departure from the current one.

The headlamps are inward sloping ones that give it a mean look. It has has integrated LED DRLs. The large headlamps have a small front grille between them. The sloping roofline and the presence of a rear spoiler add to the sleek styling. The taillamps are sharp looking ones with a C-shaped illuminating pattern. The rear-end has an angular styling and  the rear door handles are integrated into the upper partof the doors. It has classy looking 12-spoke, 16-inch alloy wheels.

Earlier, the 2017 Nissan Micra had been spotted testing in Europe for the very first time. The new Micra has taken clues from the Sway concept showcased earlier. The V-shaped small grille is identical to the concept.

The interior uses a darker, deeper blue, with high contrasting ivory and orange colours matching the exterior to give a sense of unity to the car. The company is introducing the Nissan Intelligent Driving across all grades.

There is a touchscreen system with navigation, reverse parking camera, steering mounted audio controls and climate control too. This will get Bose music system, which will enhance the music experience.

“With this new concept car for Geneva, we are experimenting to see how Nissan might be able to bring fresh ideas to the compact hatchback segment,” said Shiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President, Design and Chief Creative Officer, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.

Nissan will be offering the Micra with different engines beginning from 1.0-litre to 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. The re will be a five-speed manual transmission and even CVT (continuously variable transmission) on offer.

2017 Nissan Micra Platforms

The Nissan Micra will have the same design globally, however developed markets will get the Micra on the CMF platform, while developing markets will have the Micra made on the V-platform. This will reduce the costing for products for the developing markets, at the same time CMF will meet the demands for the European market.

2017 Nissan Micra for India?

No, the new Micra isn’t coming to India. For next year, the company will be getting the facelift version only. The new Micra might just not even make it into India. It is expected to come to India not before late 2017. Till then, Nissan will continue to sell the current car. For India, Nissan will be selling the new Micra, however the design will be inspired from the European one, but the underpinnings will be different. Nissan is looking at exporting the Micra from India to other car markets.
