Known to offer excellent ride quality, the Renault Duster faded from the Indian market after the launch of Hyundai Creta. Duster once ruled the segment but Renault didn’t really update the SUV. Soon, the Duster was discontinued from the Indian market. However, Renault will get back into the race and compete with Creta with the all new Duster.

New Renault Duster – Plug-in Hybrid Technology

The biggest upgrade on the new Duster would be the new plug in hybrid powertrain. Renault has already announced their plan of launching strong hybrids in India and the new Duster could be one of these. In fact the new Duster could be the first Renault car in India with a strong hybrid powertrain. Talking about the specifications, Renault currently has two strong hybrid setups – a 143bhp and the other 157bhp.

What to expect on the Duster? To compete with SUVs like Creta and Grand Vitara, Renault will possibly offer the 143bhp hybrid setup with the new Duster. It gets a 9.8kWh battery pack which includes two electric motors paired to a 1.2-litre petrol engine. The introduction of hybrid setup will help them to compete with SUVs like Grand Vitara, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Creta, and Elevate. Mind you, we will soon have an SUV from the home grown brand Tata, the Tata Curvv!

Technology and features

The biggest advantage the Renault Duster would hold is features and technology the SUV will offer at an affordable price. The Renault Kiger is a prime example of Reanult’s focus on offering value-for-money products. Similarly, the Duster will also offer a lot at an affordable price. Feature-wise, we can expect the new Duster to come with a 10-inch infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and an electric tailgate.

Talking about safety, the Duster which was sold in India was not well known for its safety. However, since the launch of new Renault cars – the Kiger and the Triber, the brand seems to work on the safety aspect as both the Kiger and the Triber has impressed with their build quality. Renault would like to continue that reputation with the new Duster and expect some good safety ratings with the SUV. As of now, we are expecting safety features like 6-Airbags, ESC, ABS with EBD, traction control and a 360-degree camera.

New Renault Duster – Turbo petrol option at Affordable price

Another highlight of the new Duster would be the option of a turbo petrol engine at an affordable price. As per the reports, the new Duster will be offered with a 1.0-litre turbo and a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine is likely to produce 118bhp while the 1.3-litre turbo petrol could produce, a segment leading 168bhp of power. Now even if the Duster will be offered with both these engines, the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine will likely be offered at an affordable price. But how affordable will that be? Well, we are expecting it to be priced aggressively when compared to the competitors. Expect the lower variants of the Duster to come with this engine which will be priced similarly where the competitors offer non-turbo petrol engines.

Value-for-Money variants

Above all the factors we stated above, offering value for money variants is where we are expecting the Duster would shine. We have seen value-for-money products like the Renault Kiger and Triber, and the same could be the case with Duster as well. Renault will try to offer a long list of features from the base variant itself. In fact we can even get a few premium features on the mid variants of the Duster, making it a strong opponent.

New Renault Duster – Launch & Pricing

Renault is all set to unveil the new Duster globally on 29th November. It is expected to go on sale in European markets first. However, we can expect the Renault Duster to come to India by late 2024 or early 2025. Price-wise, expect the Duster to be anywhere between Rs 14 lakh to Rs 23 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
