2024 MG 3 Spied in China! Altroz & Baleno rival

Debuted in India in 2019, MG motors saw a decent response from the Indians. They first started with the Hector and then introduced SUVs like Astor, Gloster and the ZS EV. Although the brand never focused on the premium hatchback segment which is preferred by a lot of Indians. On the other side MG does sell an entry level premium hatchback outside India, the MG 3. It was first introduced in 2008 and it is right now in the second gen avatar. But now MG is planning to launch the third generation of the MG 3 as it was spied testing in China. So what updates could we see in the 2024 MG 3? And will it make its way to the Indian market? Let’s find out.
2024 MG 3 – Exterior

The car spotted in China was heavily camouflaged. On the front, the new elements spotted were triangular headlamps, large hexagonal grill and L-shaped fog lamp housing. What seems similar to the second-gen car is the design of the bonnet. Overall, unlike the current gen car, MG has gone making the car look sharper.
On the side, it now gets new panels which appear curvy when compared to the outgoing model and similar treatment has been given to the roof as well. Another change that is visible is the new design for the alloy wheels. The rest of the elements on the side profile like door handles and ORVMs are unchanged.

Coming to the rear, it gets new horizontal tail lamps. While a rear spoiler along with rear windshield wiper was also spotted on the test mule car. The overall exterior profile looks pretty similar to the MG 5 sedan. A few patent images were leaked online before and the silhouette of the test mule of MG 3 looks exactly the same to those.
Interior

The interior was also spotted but unfortunately we couldn’t spot many details as the dash was completely covered. It seems that the 2024 MG 3 could get a refreshed dashboard. The only visible elements were the seats and split instrument cluster and touchscreen system. Overall the interiors had a black theme.
2024 MG 3 – Engine & Transmission
Powering the 2024 MG 3 will be a 1.5-litre hybrid powertrain. The petrol motor is capable of producing 107.5bhp and 142 Nm of torque. While the electric motor produces 94bhp and 200 Nm of torque. However we are still unknown with the combined power output. With this engine option it could get options for both, manual and automatic transmission.
Will it come to India?
Getting MG 3 in India could be a big opportunity for the brand as Indians do prefer hatchbacks. However there is no confirmation if MG will introduce their hatchback to India as they are more focused in launching their SUV line-up here. If launched, the 2024 MG 3 will face an aggressive competition from the segment leader Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz, and the Hyundai i20.
