Top 5 upcoming Tata EVs after Nexon EV facelift

When it comes to EV, Tata Motors have been the most pro-active brand in India. In fact it was the Tata Nexon EV which actually gave confidence to Indians that living with an EV is possible in India. However, the current EV line up of the Tata Motors are based on Gen-1 platform wherein they have swapped the mechanicals to occupy the batteries and the motors. That said, they have already showcased the Gen-2 and Gen-3 platforms along with the cars that will debut on these platforms. In today’s article let’s talk about Top 5 Upcoming Tata EVs that the company is planning to add in their EV line up.

Tata Punch EV

Talking about the EVs that will be based on the Gen-1 platform, we will see the Harrier EV/Safari EV and the Punch EV. Talking about the Punch EV, since Tata has decided to launch the electric avatars of all their existing portfolio, the Punch EV is just around the corner.

However, recent spy shots have hinted that we could see the launch of Punch EV to happen very soon. The Punch EV was spotted at a charging station with the charger plugged on the front grille of the SUV.

For now, we do not have enough information regarding the features but some spy shots have revealed that it may get an electric parking brake and a rotary gearbox. Features like an air purifier and wireless charging pad could also be included in the Punch EV.

Overall, in terms of design we are expecting the Punch EV to be exactly like the current ICE version with some blue highlights inside and out.

The Punch EV will be equipped with Tata’s Ziptron technology and we expect it to share its specifications with the Tigor EV. Meaning, it could get a 26kWh battery pack, churning out 73 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. The said battery pack comes with a claimed range of 315km on the Tigor and similar figures are expected on the Punch EV with a real-world range of 200km to 250km.

The Punch EV will sit between the Tigor EV and the Nexon EV and could be priced between them. Talking about the launch timeline, well you might get to see the launch by the end of this year.

Top 5 Upcoming Tata EVs – Tata Harrier EV

Talking about the Harrier EV or Safari EV, Tata has already showcased the close-to-production ready version of the Harrier EV in the Auto Expo 2023. Also these would be the largest EVs in the portfolio of Tata Motors.

The SUV will basically be the Harrier with the mechanicals swapped with the batteries and the motors. Although Tata Motors could make changes on the exterior as we saw in the Auto Expo. It gets a redesigned front and rear bumper with radar at the front for ADAS. The headlamp setup is completely new and could possibly get LED lights.

Even the front grille is completely closed like we see on any EV. From the side it is exactly the Harrier and the only differentiating factor visible were different sets of alloy wheels. At the rear, again there are some visual changes like new vertical housing for the reflectors and redesigned tail lamps.

Talking about the interiors, the car we saw in the Auto Expo 2023 came with the exact same interiors of the outgoing Harrier. However with the facelift, the Harrier is expected to get some design changes for the interiors, we expect the Harrier EV could be launched with design elements of that of Tata Harrier 2023 facelift. On the feature front we can expect the Harrier EV to get a new 12-inch infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, rotary-styled gear knob, 360-degree camera, voice assisted sunroof, ventilated seats and much more.

Regarding the battery pack we do not have exact numbers but we can expect that it will be powered by a 60 to 70kWh battery pack. Also, it is said that the Harrier EV will get dual motors and will also be equipped with AWD hardware, making it an off road capable EV SUV.

However, you will not have to wait for long for the Harrier EV as reports say that the SUV will be launched in early 2024. For now we have no speculations about the launch timeline of Safari EV, but it also come in the future.

Top 5 Upcoming Tata EVs – Tata Curvv

Bored from the traditional design of cars? Well the Tata Curvv might be the perfect car for you. Based on the Nexon’s X1 platform, Tata debuted its ‘Digital Design Language’ with the concept Curvv. It boasts a coupe-like SUV design with multiple powertrain options.

The Curvv will sit between Nexon and the Harrier and will be loaded with features. It is likely to get touch-sensitive HVAC controls, ambient lighting, a dual-tone dashboard, powered seats, digital instrument cluster, and more.

The Curvv would be Tata’s Gen 2 Architecture which will ensure good safety ratings. It will be launched as EV first car and soon will be introduced with ICE variants as well. Also, the platform will get some tweaks which will enable it to occupy a larger battery pack than the Nexon EV.

Now although Tata is yet to reveal the exact specifications of the EV or ICE version, we speculate that the Tata Curvv EV should ideally have a claimed range of 450 or 500km. For the ice variants the Curvv could get the 1.2-litre TGDi engine which will produce 123 bhp and 225 Nm of torque. Its higher variants could get a 1.5-litre TGDi engine which will be capable of producing 167 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. Diesel duties could be handled by the 1.5-litre unit that powers the Nexon.

Tata Curvv EV could be priced around the Rs 18 lakh mark (ex-showroom) and will rival cars like the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, Maruti eVX and Honda Elevate EV.

Tata Avinya

After showcasing the concept Curvv, Tata Motors has gone ahead by displaying the concept Tata Avinya. Unlike Curvv, Avinya will be based on a skateboard platform which indicates the car to be launched in only an electric avatar.

Talking about the design, the Avinya concept gets a futuristic look. The front gets a very unique design with an illuminated grille. On top of the grille we have DRL running across the width of the car. Coming to the side profile, the car has a few sharp creases.

While the ORVMs are not what we usually see on any traditional car. Instead the ORVMs have cameras on them that transmit feed into the car. At the rear we have a very unique spoiler for better aerodynamics followed by LED tail lights with a similar design treatment of the DRL.

Being based on Tata’s 3rd gen EV platform, it is said that the Avinya will have a range of more than 500km. The benefit of this new generation is that it will open up a lot of space inside the cabin. 

Stepping inside the Avinya, it continues to get the futuristic design as we saw on the outside. The layout is pretty simple with a plain dashboard and ambient lights running above it. One thing to notice is that where the world is introducing more screens, Tata has displayed Avinya with no touchscreen as they plan to make these new vehicles all voice controlled.

Also, just like the Tata Curvv, it gets a two-spoke steering wheel with an integrated display. It also has speakers near the headrests of each seat and AC vents integrated on the door pads.

Talking about the launch of Tata Avinya, it will be launched in two years from now in 2025.

Top 5 Upcoming Tata EVs – Tata Sierra

For all the Sierra fans out there, Tata has good news for you as they are planning to make a comeback of their iconic nameplate, the Sierra. However, it will not have the 3-door design like the original one had. The car showcased in Auto Expo 2023 was radically different from the concept that was revealed earlier. 

At the front we could see an infinity DRL design with the headlamp units below that. Overall, the new Sierra has a very bold and aggressive front fascia. As we move towards the side of the SUV we could see a dual-tone finish. Also, it has a large window area with the top part being blacked out giving it wrapped-glass design which looks similar to the original Sierra. At the rear, again the SUV has an infinity tail lamps design and a rear spoiler.

Talking about the interiors, Tata has tweaked the interior design of the Sierra EV, making it a more practical SUV. It is said that the Sierra could be launched in a conventional 5-seater version and a lounge version that will occupy two passengers at the back, making it a 4-seater. Overall it seems to be a blend of the Curvv and Avinya concepts.

Tata Sierra is based on the tweaked version of the Gen-2 platform of the Curvv which will enable it to gain more range than the Curvv. Now, Tata has not shared details about the battery pack that will power the Sierra but we expect that Sierra should return a real-life range of 500-600km. Also, Tata Motors could offer dual motors like the Harrier EV giving it AWD hardware for off-road capabilities. But will the car be launched with ICE variants? Well, certainly! But again, Tata has not shared any details regarding the same.

Regarding the launch, well we can expect the Sierra to be launched in 2025 after the launch of Tata Avinya.
