MG is still establishing its base in the Indian model. The brand’s journey in the Indian market has been a rough ride with problems related to its Chinese parent company. Still, the brand is hopeful that it can change the tide in the upcoming months. Recently it launched the Comet EV and now a compact SUV could be its next product. MG’s sister brand, Baojun has unveiled the features of the Baojun SUV. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Next MG SUV.

The interiors of the Yep are a familiar site concerning the MG Comet. We have the same two 10.25-inch screen layouts with one for the infotainment system and the other for the instrument cluster. One major change is the Yep comes with a three-spoke steering compared to the two-spoke on the Comet. The Yep’s top-spec model even comes with ADAS tech. Other features include a rearview camera, 360-degree camera, electrically adjustable seats and heated front seats.

Next MG SUV – Dimensions & design

Next MG SUV

The Baojun Yep is a compact SUV measuring just around 3,381mm in length. It is bigger than the Comet EV and is more of a Jimny 3-door rival. Other dimensions include 1,658mm width, 1,721mm height and 2,110mm wheelbase. Coming to the design, the Yep gets a boxy design with a closed grille at the front. We have a stylish DRL design and a small bonnet. On the side, we only have two doors and a big glass area. At the rear, we have 0-shaped tail lamps and side opening tailgate.

Specifications

The Baojun Yep is based on the same platform as the MG Comet. In terms of specs, it comes with a 28.1kWh battery pack that has a claimed range of 303km (CLTC). This battery pack is paired with a 66bhp motor and its top speed is 100kph. Charging-wise, the Yep comes with DC fast charging, which is missing on the Comet EV. With a normal charger, the Yep takes 8.5 hours to charge from 20% to 80%.

Next MG SUV – Launch timeline

Next MG SUV

The Baojun Yep is certainly coming to the Indian market as a rebranded MG car. Currently, MG is working on heavily localising the Comet EV and this will also help the Yep if it is launched in India. According to Autocar India, MG will only launch the Yep after its second round of investment to finance the Halol plant in Gujarat.
