SUVs are the talk of the town currently. It is not so much about the SUV factor, people just want something with higher ground clearance. All manufacturers have started offering high-ground clearance on their cars. Last year, Tata launched the Punch which rejuvenated the small SUV segment. Now Maruti has launched the Fronx, which is not an SUV but more of a cross-over. The prices do overlap a bit, so which one should you buy? In today’s article, let’s compare Punch vs Fronx.

First, let’s talk about the dimensions, the Punch is 3,827mm long, 1,742mm wide & 1,615mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2,445mm and has a ground clearance of 187mm. In comparison, the Fronx is 3,995mm in height, 1,765mm in width & 1,550mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2,520mm and a ground clearance of 190mm. In most aspects, the Fronx triumphs over the Punch. But being a crossover, the Fronx lacks the sheer height offered by the Punch.

The Tata Punch only comes with one petrol engine option. It comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine capable of producing 87bhp and 115Nm of torque. Transmission options include a manual and an AMT gearbox. The Punch also comes with a CNG option paired to engine capable of producing 72.4bhp and 103Nm of torque. CNG only comes with a manual gearbox option. The Punch CNG comes with Tata’s famed twin-cylinder technology that opens up a lot of space in the boot.

The Fronx comes with two petrol engine options. First, we have the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine capable of producing 88bhp and 113Nm of torque. Transmission options include a manual and an AMT. The second option is a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine capable of producing 99bhp and 148Nm of torque. Transmission options include a manual and a proper automatic gearbox. Recently, Maruti launched the Fronx CNG on the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine. This combination is capable of producing 76bhp and 98Nm of torque.

The Tata Punch comes with a decent amount of features. Tata recently added a sunroof, centre armrest, iTPMs, and Xpress cool on the Punch. Other features include a 7.0-inch infotainment system, Harman sound system, cooled glove box, auto headlamps, reverse parking camera, semi-digital instrument cluster and cruise control.

In comparison, the Maruti Fronx comes with a 9.0-inch floating infotainment system, ARKAMYs sound system, heads-up display, 360-degree camera, six airbags etc. 

Fronx vs Punch – Pricing

The pricing of the Tata Punch starts from Rs 7.12 lakh and goes to Rs 12.05 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). In comparison, the pricing of the Maruti Fronx starts from Rs 8.66 lakh and goes to Rs 15.37 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Pricing of the turbo variants starts from Rs 11.35 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
