The Toyota Fortuner is one SUV that doesn’t need any introduction in the Indian market. Even with regular price hikes, Toyota can in good month sell more than 3000 units of the Fortuner, which is remarkable for a 50 lakh car. As a product, the Fortuner is known for its reliability and aggressive looks. Now the Fortuner is due for a major update, and we have got our first glimpse of what the new Fortuner could look like. In today’s article, let’s talk about the 2024 Toyota Fortuner.
Toyota has just revealed the first teaser of the Tacoma pickup. For context, Tacoma is a pickup truck similar to the Hilux. And the Hilux in turn is the pickup version of the Fortuner. Coming back to the topic, the design of the Tacoma has leaked online due to design patents. The front of the Tacoma has taken design inspiration from newer Toyota SUVs and comes with a bit of muted design compared to the current Fortuner. Overall we have smaller headlamps that don’t integrate into the grille. We have a grille with another strip on it housing the logo. At the back, we have C-shaped tail lamps and a new bumper design.
The Tacoma pickup is rumored to be based on the TNGA-F platform that underpins the Land Cruiser 300. We expect this platform to also underpin the new generation Hilux and Fortuner. Talking about engine options, the Tacoma is expected to come with a 2.4-litre hybrid turbo-petrol engine, which is also expected to make its way to India. Could Toyota discontinue diesel? That is unlikely to happen as diesel continues to be popular in this segment. There are rumors that Toyota is building a diesel hybrid engine for the new-gen Fortuner. None of these rumors are substantiated we must say.
2024 Toyota Fortuner – Launch timeline
Toyota is expected to launch the Tacoma in North America in the upcoming months. What about the new Fortuner? Toyota has started working on the new-generation Fortuner, but still it is in the early stages of development. We expect Toyota to launch the new Fortuner sometime in 2024.
