The last few years have seen tremendous growth in the SUV segment. Everyone wants a car with high ground clearance and high seating. Even though these cars are called SUVs, they lack that proper off-roading capability. But we could see some new rugged off-roaders. In today’s article, let’s talk about upcoming off-road SUV.

Maruti Jimny

The Jimny was one of the most anticipated off-roaders in the country. Maruti finally took wraps off this off-road SUV at the Auto Expo. Maruti has brought the 5-door model to India to improve its practicality. Overall, the brand has retained the boxy silhouette. In the interiors, it comes with features like a premium sound system, a 9.0-inch infotainment system, cruise control, etc. Being a lifestyle off-roader, it comes with AllGrip Pro 4×4 technology. Maruti had already opened up the bookings of the Jimny, and the car has now reached dealerships as well for customers to check out. The launch is expected to happen in the coming months.

Mahindra’s next highly anticipated off-road SUV has to be the Thar 5-door. The bigger Thar will provide better practicality with the extra space. Design-wise, the Thar 5-door will mostly continue with the same boxy silhouette of the 3-door model. The car has been spotted in testing, but this is just the prototype model. The final production model could get several changes like an updated interior layout, etc. Mahindra could unveil the Thar 5-door by the end of 2023.

Force Gurkha 5-door

To challenge the Thar, Force is also bringing the 5-door version of the Gurkha. The 5-door Gurkha has been spotted testing several times. With the 5-door version, the Gurkha will get that much needed interior space and some more practical features. The Gurkha 3-door is already one of the best off-roaders in the country and we can expect the same from the 5-door version. The Gurkha 5-door is expected to be launched in the second half of 2023.

Upcoming off-road SUV – Tata Sierra

Tata is making a grand comeback in the off-road segment. Its Sierra has been an iconic nameplate, and Tata is bringing it back. At the Auto Expo, Tata revealed the all-new Sierra in its EV avatar. This new concept felt more like a production version compared to the earlier concept. Overall the car looked quite bold and aggressive. Tata could give it dual motor capabilities, offering off-road capabilities like the original Sierra. What about the launch timeline? We expect Tata to unveil the production version in 2024 or 2025.
