The SUV craze continues to bug the Indian market. Everyone is looking to buy SUVs from micro to full-size. In the small SUV segment, we have the Tata Punch, which has just taken the market by storm. Since its launch, it is averaging around 10k to 12k sales per month, which is remarkable for a new product. Seeing the success of Punch, other manufacturers are bringing in new products to rival it. In today’s article, let’s talk about 2 new Tata Punch rivals.

Hyundai Ai3

Hyundai had a major lead in the SUV segment, but in the last few years, Tata has narrowed down the gap at an exponential rate. To counter this, Hyundai is working on a Punch competitor. This car has been codenamed Ai3 and has been spotted testing in South Korea. The mechanical bits of this SUV is expected to be shared with the Grand i10 Nios. So we can expect the same platform and engine options. Hyundai could also offer a CNG option on the Ai3. Being a Hyundai car, it is almost certain to come loaded with features. What about the launch? The Ai3 could be launched before the festive season.

New Punch rivals – Maruti Fronx

The Fronx is not a direct competitor to the Tata Punch, but it is expected to be placed in a similar price range. For context, Fronx is a beefed-up version of the Baleno that Maruti unveiled at the Auto Expo. The Fronx gets that Grand Vitara-like front design and a coupe-like rear design. In terms of specifications, the Fronx comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Both the engines come with manual and automatic gearbox options. Feature-wise, the Fronx gets a heads-up display, 9.0-inch infotainment, 360-degree camera and much more. Maruti has already opened the bookings of the Fronx, with a launch expected to happen in April or May this year.
