The EV segment is slowly catching up in the Indian market. Tata’s insurgency has shown other brands that EVs are the way forward in the country. Last year, Mahindra gave us a glimpse of its EV ambitions. One car that Mahindra showed the e8 has particularly grabbed our attention. It’s going to be Mahindra’s first proper EV and will revolutionise the market like the XUV700. So in today’s article, let’s talk about the Mahindra XUV700 electric.

Design

The e8 is based on the same exterior design as the XUV700. From the sides, it looks almost identical to its ice sibling barring the alloy wheel design. At the front, we have a big bonnet-wise DRL design forming an inverted L-shape. As we come to the rear we can see a connected taillamp design. But according to Mahindra, this is just a prototype and the production will have several changes over the XUV700.

Coming to the specifications, the e8 is likely to come with an 80kWh battery pack giving a power output in the range of 170-210kW. These figures are for the rear-wheel drive setup. Mahindra could also give it an all-wheel-drive setup that will deliver 250kW-290kW of power. Being an EV it will come with an automatic gearbox. Mahindra claims that the e8 will come with a fast charger that can charge the EV from 0% to 80% in just 30 minutes.

Features

As you enter the e8 you are greeted with a big screen covering the entire dashboard. The rest of the layout is similar to the XUV700, but that could change in the production version. The XUV700 is already one of the most feature-loaded cars in India and we expect even more on the e8. Other expected features include HUD with augmented reality, new connected features, an advanced navigation system etc.

The XUV.e8 will be the first Born electric EV Mahindra would launch in the country. For now, Mahindra has scheduled the launch in December 2024. Considering the time, we could expect some changes to the production model of the e8. What about the pricing? It is hard to guess considering we haven’t seen the production version, but we expect it to start somewhere around the Rs 27 lakh mark (ex-showroom).
