Alternative fuel options like CNG and EVs have now gained traction due to the increasing prices of fossil fuels. The availability of affordable EVs is still in the nascent stage leaving us with the CNG option. Therefore we see the implementation of CNG in various manufacturers. One such brand which is likely to enter the race is Kia. The CNG test model of the Carens was already being spotted and now we could see the Sonet CNG itself. It seems like Kia wants to penetrate more in the segment more with their CNG models.

2023 Kia Sonet – New CNG model?

The Sonet CNG was spotted testing on Indian roads with all the ARAI components fitted to it. Moreover, the spotted vehicle was the Xline model which is only available with an automatic gearbox. What could this mean? If the possibility of CNG testing is on track then Kia might be the first manufacturer to offer CNG with turbo petrol and an auto gearbox. However, nothing is official yet but if it comes down on the production line, it could be one of a kind model which could definitely shadow its rivals.

Other changes

2023 Kia Sonet

If we talk about the Sonet X-line, is based on the top variant of the Sonet. It is equipped with all the bells and whistles that include a premium sound system, a large touchscreen, ventilated seats, auto-dimming IRVM and more. If the CNG is launched, the addition of the gas tank could eat up its 392 litres of boot space. Other than this CNG switch along with CNG telematics on the TFT screen. What about pricing? The pricing could attract a premium of Rs 1 lakh over the turbo petrol automatic. The extra CNG fitment would definitely make the car economical to run but could hamper the performance. What are your thoughts on the Sonet CNG? Would you buy one?
