Our country’s car market is diversifying with several options that are available to us. Now one can choose the best suitable car within hir budget without compromising on features or power. However, if we penetrate deeper into the sub-segments, the options start to boil down to one or two and sometimes it’s nil. One such category is the midsize eSUV with which still finds a void. However, that is about to change because a new electric SUV is on the line to conquer the segment. Which is it? Let’s find out.

New electric SUV – Design

The car we are talking about is the upcoming Harrier EV, showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. The design and cuts are identical to the ICE model but we can see some EV-specific changes. For starters, the front gets a closed-off grille, a tweaked look of the front bumpers, a new design for the split headlamp setup, and a connecting DRL strip below the bonnet line. Coming to the sides, it gets a clean look, with touch buttons for door handles and EV badging on the front fender. The rear now appears more sporty with blacked-out elements and connected tail lamps.

Features

The feature list on this new EV is not yet revealed. The car shown at the Auto Expo was not the actual production version therefore we cannot spike any conclusions from it. However, being a technologically advanced EV, we expect it to get all the bells and whistles. Moreover, it could also take adaptations from the recently launched Red Dark edition. The feature list on this Tata could get additions like a 10.25-inch infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, 360-degree camera, powered driver seat, ADAS and more.

Tata has tried and tested Ziptron EV technology which has proven its metal in other Tata EVs. The brand could maintain the same tech in the Harrier EV possibly with a battery pack of 60 to 70kWh to offer a decent range of around 450 to 600kms. There are also talks about a dual motor setup but whether it could be getting an all-wheel drive version is still the question.

Launch and Pricing

The pricing of the Harrier EV is likely to be in tandem with the ICE car due to the relaxed taxation schemes on EVs. Therefore, the pricing of this EV could start around Rs 27lakh to 35lakh (on-road, prices). What about the launch? Tata has confirmed that it plans to launch the Harrier EV by the end of 2023 or early 2024.
