Kia’s aggressive SUV strategy has worked like a treat in the country. Its SUVs like the Seltos and Sonet have done well in the market. The Seltos continues to be the best-selling car for the brand, but the Sonet has also done reasonably well competing with the likes of Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue etc. But now the Sonet is in need of an update to keep up with the competition. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Rs 8 lakh Kia SUV.
Design updates
Design-wise, the Kia doesn’t feel outdated by any stretch of the imagination. But Kia will need to give it some subtle design changes to differentiate the new model. Like the Seltos, the Sonet could also sport a bonnet-wide DRL design. Kia could tweak the Grille and give it new bumpers and headlamps. Other than that, Kia could give it new alloy wheels and new colour options.

The Sonet already comes with several engine and transmission options. So we don’t expect Kia to tinker with the powertrain options. The Sonet facelift will continue with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated, 1.0-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine. Transmission options of Manual, iMT and automatic gearboxes will continue on the facelift.
Features
The Sonet is already the most feature-loaded car in its segment. But Kia will have to step up its game considering the competition is catching up. In the facelift, Kia could add a digital instrument cluster, heads-up display, cooled glove box etc. Could Kia offer ADAS? Kia might offer ADAS considering competitors like Nexon could also get in the new model.

Currently, Kia is working on bringing the Seltos facelift to India. If we look at Kia’s product strategy, it is yet to bring any facelift, but 4 years seems to be a sweet spot for the brand. So considering the Sonet was launched in 2020, Kia could unveil its facelift in 2024. What about the pricing? The Sonet facelift could get a price hike of Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 depending upon the variants.
