In the last few years, Maruti and Toyota have taken a different direction in the country. Since the start of their partnership, both brands have launched several new products. These products include all-new as well as some badge-engineered models. As we all know, Maruti recently unveiled the Jimny. So will there be a badge-engineered Jimny from Toyota? In today’s article, let’s talk about the Toyota Jimny.

Why?

Toyota as a manufacturer is known for its butch and big SUVs in India. But one thing Toyota lacks is an affordable off-roader. This is where Jimny could slot right into Toyota’s portfolio. The Jimny is already a proven off-roader and with the Toyota badging, it could become a big success for the brand. Maruti is doing something similar by incorporating the Innova Hycross in its portfolio.

What could it get?

As with any other badge-engineered cars, there will be no mechanical changes. We could see the same K15B petrol engine capable of producing 103bhp and 134Nm torque. On the exterior, Toyota could make some minor changes like a changed bumper, headlamp etc. In the interiors, Toyota could tweak the upholstery colour.

So will we ever see it?

As mentioned above, such collaboration could help Toyota. So it makes sense for Toyota to bring the Jimny. It will add another vehicle to Toyota’s ever-increasing product portfolio. If Toyota plans to bring the badge-engineered Jimny, it would be after Maruti launches the Jimny. Like other shared cars between the two brands, the Toyota Jimny will be a bit expensive but offer better standard warranty plans.
