After the implementation of the BS6 Phase 2 norms, the car prices would increase due to the additional tech and components that went into the manufacturing. Therefore, many manufacturers have now decided to pull the plug off diesel engines from many cars due to the low sales performance and increased costs. One such car segment is the hatchback wherein the diesel has almost vanished. However, Tata still has the Altroz in the premium hatchback segment which offers diesel.

The Tata Altroz is the only hatchback in the country which gets a diesel engine. The Altroz is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel motor that makes 89bhp and 200Nm of torque. Transmission duties are carried out by a 5-speed MT gearbox only. You don’t get an option of automatic. Talking about features and safety, it scores a 5-star safety rating from GNCAP (making it the safest hatchback on sale) and you also get plenty of features too. The Altroz gets a 7-inch infotainment system with voice commands and smartphone connectivity, iTPMS, rain-sensing wipers, a premium audio system and many more features.

The pricing of the Altroz diesel starts at Rs 9.58lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for the base XE variant. Whereas, the top variant is priced at Rs 12.61lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for the XZ Plus. Being the only diesel hatchback now with a claimed mileage of 23.03kmpl. It has also got enough torque and power for all the diesel heads. Therefore, if you are willing to go for a diesel hatch, the Altroz becomes a safe and feature-loaded option.
