The Maruti Jimny is finally here after a long wait. Maruti finally took off the wraps of the Jimny 5-door in India. Maruti has loaded it with 4×4 tech and also convenience features. But one question everyone has been asking is the Maruti Jimny Safe. In today’s article, let’s talk about Maruti Jimny safety.
Safety score
The Jimny 5-door is yet to be tested, but the three-door scored a three-star rating in Euro NCAP. Though the same ratings don’t apply to the 5-door version, but it is based on the same ladder frame chassis. Now we don’t know if Maruti has changed this chassis, but hopefully not. So we can expect at least a three-star rating on the Jimny. If Maruti can achieve a four-star crash test rating, it would help it take on the Mahindra Thar. In terms of safety features, the Jimny comes with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, a rearview camera, Hill hold control, Hill descent control and ISOFIX.
Design & specifications
The overall silhouette of the 5-door Jimny is similar to the 3-door version. So we have a boxy design with sharp cuts and creases. At the front, we have the iconic Jimny grille and circular headlamps. From the sides, we can see the extended wheelbase. The rear has the spare tyre mounted on the rear door. What about the specifications? The Jimny 5-door comes with the K15B engine capable of producing 103bhp and 130Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic. We also have the Allgrip Pro+ (4×4) technology. In terms of features, we have a 9-inch infotainment system, ARKAMYs sound system, cruise control, and Suzuki connect.
Maruti Jimny safety – Pricing
For now, Maruti has only unveiled the Jimny 5-door in India. For now, you can book the Jimny for an amount of Rs 25,000. Pricing of the car is expected to be revealed in the upcoming months. We think Maruti will want to price the Jimny 5-door below the Rs 10 lakh mark rival. So we expect the Zeta manual to start from Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The pricing of the Jimny could range from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 14.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
