For several years, Maruti had an iron hold on the affordable MPV segment with cars like the Ertiga and XL6. So everyone was surprised when Kia decided to take on the Ertiga with the Carens. But it was a calculated gamble from Kia seeing the success of Carens. Now, Citroen is also planning a 7-seater to take on the Carens. So should a Carens buyer wait for this 7-seater? In today’s article, let’s talk about this new Kia Carens rival.

Design

About two or three months back, the Citroen 7-seater was spotted testing for the first time. It was the beefed up version of C3, but also had third-row seating with adjustable headrests. Other than that, the spotted car had beefed up muscular fenders and bigger tyres. Overall, it had the same quirky design language at the front. The car looked quite proportionate from the spy shots.

New Carens rival – Specifications

The C3 7-seater mechanically will be the same as the C3 hatchback. It will just get a bigger overhang at the rear to accommodate the third row. What about the engine options? The C3 7-seater is expected to come with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing 108bhp and 190Nm of torque. Transmission options could include a manual and an automatic gearbox. Citroen is known for its soft suspension setups, and that would be carried on the C3 7-seater.

Features

We expect Citroen to better equip the C3 7-seater than the C3 hatchback. Citroen could give it more soft-touch materials on major touchpoints and different upholstery to increase its premiumness. Feature-wise, it could get automatic climate control, auto-dimming IRVMs, wireless charging, alloy wheels, electrically adjustable ORVM and more.

New Carens rival – When is it coming?

Currently, Citroen is working on launching its first electric car in India. This electric car is the EV version of the C3 hatchback. After that, Citroen could focus on launching the C3 7-seater. Considering all this, the C3 7-seater could be launched in the latter part of 2023. What about the pricing? It could start from Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival cars like the Maruti Ertiga, Maruti XL6 and Kia Carens.

Should Carens buyer wait?

So, should a Carens buyer wait for the C3 7-seater? The C3 7-seater looks like quite a promising product on paper. Its unique design and suspension tuning could be a good buy for a lot of people. But, is it better than Carens? That’s hard to tell as the Carens has its strong points like a better turbo engine, diesel engine and features. The C3 7-seater is also a year away, so the Carens seems a better option right now.
