As we are aware of the taxation system of India wherein it majorly levies taxes on the basis of a car length, engine size, and ground clearance is turning out judicious for this new Thar. The new car is set to get a 1.5-litre diesel engine which will reduce the car’s cost due to the smaller capacity engine. For reference, the current Thar gets a 2.2-litre diesel engine which is priced at Rs 17.24 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). However, if we talk about the new model, it will get the same 1.5-litre mill as the Marazzo making 117bhp and 300Nm of torque. It will be made available solely with a two-wheel drive setup.

The new Mahindra Thar 4×2 model is likely to be spartan in terms of features. The automaker is likely to keep this car as an entry-level model for all those buyers who wanted the unique and stand-out desirabilities of the car. Moreover, not all the Thar buyers might be using the 4×4 mode. So, getting this car for such buyers would be lighter on the pocket. The overall macho look of the car that comprises heavy body cladding, slated grille, round headlamps, and the tailgate-mounted rear spare wheel would be there so changes are expected on the exterior except for the ‘4×4’ badge. Pricing is expected to fall around Rs 10 lakh mark (on-road) that will make it a lucrative option.
