Honda has earlier confirmed that it would be developing a new SUV by keeping in mind the Indian Market. In the past months, it has pulled off the covers from its new WR-V in Indonesian markets. This new generation of cars does look like a proper SUV rather than a crossover. It gets a multitude of SUV characteristics like high ground clearance, tall stance, well-defined body cladding, roof rails and C-pillar mounted rear door handle. The overall look of the car is on the sportier side with dual-tone colour schemes as well. 

Reliability

Honda has always been known for its reliability quotient. Japanese manufacturers are known for their highly reliable cars and its existing cars like the City, Amaze are no exception. This new Honda WR-V takes design cues from the Honda RS concept shown at the GIIAS Motorshow. Moreover, if we talk about its PF2 platform, it’s the same which also underpins the Amaze. So, we are known to the fact that the base of the car is strong because the Amaze scores a commendable 4-star GNCAP safety rating.

Then the car is also late to the party where it has got already popular rivals like the Nexon, Brezza, Venue, Sonet and more. The Indonesian spec model gets plenty of features like full LED headlamps with LED DRL, walk-away auto lock, semi-digital instrument cluster, 6 speakers, automatic AC, leather-wrapped steering wheel, etc. How many of them could make their way here? Only time could tell.

Engine

The WR-V is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine which makes around 119bhp and 145Nm of torque. This is the same engine that powers the fifth-generation City in India. If we talk about gearbox options, the Indonesians are only getting the WR-V with a CVT automatic transmission whereas, for India, it could be made available with a 6-speed manual as well.

The safety feature list includes  ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist, Vehicle Stability Assist, 4 airbags, etc. as standard. The top-trim even gets Honda Sensing (Honda’s ADAS system) along with Lane Watch. As aforementioned, the platform of this car also resonates high chance of receiving a higher safety score. Though there is the Nexon and XUV300 which has already received 5 star GNCAP safety score, this car could be the third addition.
