The compact SUV segment has become the most fiercely fought space. Most of the top-10 SUVs in the country come from this list and the top-selling SUV also belongs to this segment, the Nexon. Another best seller is the Maruti Brezza. Earlier this year, the Brezza got a major update, and that helped it top the SUV charts. However, that was short-lived, and Nexon took back its crown. Now Maruti is planning to bring the Brezza CNG. But Tata could outfox Maruti by bringing the Nexon CNG. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Rs 7-lakh Brezza CNG rival.

Nexon CNG?

With the rising fuel prices, CNG has become a major alternative for most people. Maruti is working on the Brezza CNG, and the car was recently spotted in a dealer’s yard. Seeing this, Tata could also set up its i-CNG technology in the Nexon. This makes sense considering the rising demand for CNG cars. Other manufacturers like Kia are also testing CNG on the Sonet. A CNG setup will make the Nexon one of the most versatile cars in its segment, with petrol, diesel, EV and CNG options available to buyers. 

Expected changes?

The first and foremost change will be the addition of a CNG kit in the boot. This will make the boot space unusable for most purposes. Design-wise, we don’t expect any major changes, just some i-CNG badging. The Nexon CNG will come paired with the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. In its petrol spec, this engine is capable of producing 118bhp & 170Nm of torque. Performance may or may not drop, considering Tata’s prowess in CNG technology.

The Nexon CNG has been spotted on quite a few occasions, hinting that it is a real possibility in the upcoming time. Tata might just play it safe and see what response the Brezza CNG garners before launching the Nexon CNG. What about the price hike? We can expect a price hike of Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 depending upon the variants. Tata generally offers CNG in the higher variants and that would be the case with the Nexon.
