Maruti is often categorised as an unsafe car maker for various reasons. Let’s keep that talk for another day and look into how it is making cars safer. India’s largest car maker does have a new found focus on safety and it’s likely to reflect in the future. Maruti is developing a new generation update for its iconic Swift which has been a fruitful car for the brand. In today’s article, we will be talking about the new generation Swift and how it could be safer.

New generation Swift – What could it get?

New generation Swift

The new generation Swift is spotted multiple times during its testing phase. It has got a  camouflaged design so design details are still undercover. But, we can say that it is likely to get a complete revamp for its exterior design. The upcoming car will get a new set of headlamps, different alloy wheel designs, a new set of bumpers and other design changes to the overall look of the car. Another highlight is that the car has retained the rear door handle in the conventional place. For reference, the current generation model has the rear door handle placed on the C-pillar.

Other than this, the updated car will be better in terms of equipment. It is likely to adopt various features from the Baleno. So, we can expect this car to get Heads Up Display, 360-degree camera parking, a 9-inch infotainment system with connected car tech, and more.

The current generation Swift gets a 2-star safety rating from GNCAP. Then, if we move on to the new generation car, it is also likely to get the HEARTECT platform. But, what Maruti could do is add more high-tensile steel and improve its overall safety quotient. Moreover, Maruti can imbibe more safety features like 6 airbags, ESP, etc to mount its safety strength.

Swift is known for its agile driving dynamics and handling. So, what about the engine? Maruti does have the 1.2-litre Dual Jet which makes 89bhp and 113Nm of torque. This engine is capable enough in the Swift so it is likely to continue the same. What about transmission? A 5 speed manual and an AMT gearbox are the two most probable options.

Price and Launch

New generation Swift

Suzuki could unveil the new generation Swift in the European markets where it’s spotted testing. After that, an India launch could be on its list considering the sales of the car here. So, we are expecting it to launch in the second half of next year. What about pricing? It totally depends on the updates it gets but we can expect a standard increase of around half a lakh rupees.
