5 CNG SUVs coming in 2023
SUVs are in great demand in the country, but still, there are no CNG SUV options. However, that will soon change with the launch of the Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder CNG and the Grand Vitara CNG. With this, we could see more manufacturers bringing CNG SUVs. In today’s article, let’s talk about the upcoming CNG SUVs coming in 2023.
Maruti Brezza
Earlier this year, Maruti launched the New Brezza in the country. The new Brezza comes with a new design and features. However, one thing it missed at launch was a CNG setup. Now Maruti seems to be ready with its CNG setup. The Brezza CNG will come paired with its 1.5-litre K15C engine. This engine is capable of producing 101bhp and 136Nm of torque. With CNG the power figures may drop a bit. Transmission options will include a manual and an automatic gearbox. It will be the first CNG car in India to come with an automatic gearbox. Maruti is expected to launch the Brezza CNG in January 2023.
Hyundai Creta
The Creta is a car that needs no introduction in our market. It has dominated the C-SUV segment since its launch. However, now the Creta is facing stiff competition from the newly launched Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser HyRyder. Maruti both the Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser HyRyder will be getting CNG variants in December. This has forced Hyundai to work on the Creta CNG. Recently the Creta CNG was spotted testing with an ARAI testing sticker hinting that launch could happen soon. Earlier the Kia Carens 1.4-litre turbo was also spotted testing. So this could be the setup on the Hyundai Creta. Hyundai might launch the Creta CNG in the first half of 2023.
CNG SUVs 2023 – Kia Sonet
Like Hyundai, Kia is testing CNG on its various cars. Earlier this year, the Sonet CNG was spotted testing near the Kia factory in Anantapur. This Sonet model was the turbo petrol variant of the SUV. So we could see Kia mating this CNG setup with the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing 118bhp and 172Nm of torque. Power figures may change a bit due to the CNG setup. We expect Kia to offer CNG on the mid and higher variants. Kia could launch the Sonet CNG in mid-2023.
Tata Nexon
The Nexon is ruling the company SUV segment. However, with other compact SUVs getting CNG and could look to give the Nexon its i-CNG technology. Currently, the Tiago and Tigor come with i-CNG setups in Tata’s portfolio. The Nexon CNG will come with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing 118bhp and 170Nm of torque. Tata could offer CNG on the mid and higher variants. Tata could launch the Nexon CNG in mid-2023.
CNG SUVs 2023 – Tata Punch
Like the Nexon, the Punch is another Tata SUV that could get the CNG treatment. The Punch CNG is likely to be launched after the Nexon CNG. Specification-wise, its CNG setup will come on the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine capable of producing 85bhp and 113Nm of torque. Like the Nexon CNG, Tata could offer CNG on the mid and higher variants.
