Hyundai is planning on its most affordable SUV in India. This will most likely sit below the Venue, which is the current entry-level SUV from Hyundai. Talking about this new SUV is touted to be based on the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios platform. Moreover, it is also expected to adopt more similarities with the Nios. What else does it get? Let’s discuss.
Design
It is known that the Ai3 is underpinned by Hyundai’s BA platform which is used in the Grand i10 Nios. So, the dimensions of this car are likely to be in the same category. However, as this is set to lay in the SUV category, we can expect some mountings. Other SUV perks like higher ground clearance, body cladding, roof rails, and tough and bold design could be in tandem with the Tata Punch.

If we talk about the features, Hyundai is known to offer plenty of them. Then if we talk about its positioning, many buyers who were in for a hatchback are likely to choose this due to its SUV perks. So, it has to stay potent on the feature front as well. We can expect equipment like automatic AC, semi-digital instrument cluster, cooled glove box, electric ORVMs and more.
Specifications
The new Ai3 will most probably get two petrol engine options. The availability of diesel engines in small-segment cars is getting equal to nil due to the upcoming Phase 2 norms. So, just like the Grand i10 Nios, it could get 1.2-litre petrol (82bhp and 114Nm of torque) and 1.0-litre turbo petrol (99bhp and 172Nm of torque) engine options. Gearbox options are also touted to be identical at 5-speed manual and AMT.

Hyundai is set to place this SUV below the Venue. This makes it even more accessible than the latter. Considering this factor, it could start around Rs 8 lakh (on-road). What about the launch?
