The Indian car market is a tough one to survive for manufacturers. Manufacturers have to be always on their toes to understand the trends. Even popular name plates can fade away quickly if not updated, for e.g the Duster and the Ecosport. In 2023, we could see several popular cars getting a major update. The Safari has been a landmark product for Tata in the Indian market. Its re-entry surprised everyone, but the gamble worked well for Tata. However, the Safari is now facing tough competition from the Mahindra XUV700 and the new Innova HyCross. So Tata is working on a big update for Safari. In this update, Safari could get a new exterior and interior design. Tata is also expected to lead it with features like an improved infotainment system, instrument cluster, and 360-degree camera. It is also expected to come with ADAS functionality.
Like the Safari, the Harrier will also be getting a facelift. It could get some subtle design changes and added features including ADAS functionality.
Another mid-size SUV getting a major update is the MG Hector. The new MG Hector will get an updated front design with a new prominent grille design. MG is also expected to make the interiors more premium with more soft-touch material. What about features? Feature-wise, it could have ADAS functionality, a new 14-inch infotainment system and an updated instrument cluster UI. MG is expected to launch the new Hector on 5th January 2023.
The Hyundai Creta is a car that needs no separate introduction in the market. It kind off kick-started the SUV craze in the country. The Creta is still going strong, but Hyundai could still give it a mid-life facelift. Hyundai has already unveiled this new Creta in Indonesia. This facelifted model gets a Tucson-inspired design with the ‘Parametric jewel’ grille design. Other than that, it gets some minor tweaks in the interior. Hyundai has also added ADAS functionality on the Creta facelift. Hyundai could unveil the car at the Auto Expo of 2023.
Like the Creta, the Seltos will be getting a major update in 2023. Kia has already unveiled the Seltos facelift in the USA and South Korea. This facelifted model gets a tweaked front design. Kia has also changed the rear a bit giving it a fresh look. Will it get a new engine? Most probably, Kia will continue with the same engine options. In the interior, the Seltos now get a single piece infotainment and instrument cluster. Overall, Kia has also improved its interior quality increasing the premiumness of the cabin. Kia is expected to unveil the car at the Auto Expo of 2023.
The sedan market has slowed down quite a bit in the last few years. Manufacturers are abandoning this segment in favour of SUVs. However, Hyundai is not looking to let go of this segment so easily.
