Mahindra has pulled the covers off its highly anticipated XUV400. This new EV which may look identical to its ICE counterpart- XUV300, is extensively different. What more does it get? Or it’s only different under the hood? Let’s know in detail.

Design

The XUV400 measures 4200mm in length, 1821mm in width & 1634mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2600mm and a boot space of 378 litres. This makes it longer than its ICE sibling (XUV300) and also has better boot capacity. What does it mean? The EV variant of the car would be more spacious and practical. Just like what Tata does with its teal blue accents, Mahindra has added copper colour with unique ‘X’ shaped inserts. Other differences include the tweaked tail lamp, copper colour roof, etc which are absent in the XUV300.

Nexon EV rival -Features

Nexon EV rival

The new XUV400 sits on a length of 4200mm. It means that it could be targeting the C-SUV segment which has cars like Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, etc. However, its feature list does not portray the same. The interior of this Mahindra feels dated with the all-black design and is almost ditto to the ICE car. Mahindra could have added some unique features to position it well against the Nexon EV. What does the Mahindra get? It gets an electric sunroof, a 7.0-inch infotainment system, drive modes (Fun, Fast, Fearless), 60 connected car technology, a monostable shifter, OTA updates and one pedal driving.

Battery and Range

Even if Mahindra has failed to impress with the interiors, it will surely make up your mind with its performance. The XUV400 could be the quickest affordable EV in India. How do you ask? It does 0-100kmph in 8.3 seconds. All thanks to its 39.4kWh battery pack which gets a claimed range of 456kms. Power figures measure 148bhp and 310Nm. Moreover, you also get the convenience of charging this EV with a DC fast charger. This setup achieves a 0 to 80% of charge in just 50 minutes.
