Kia’s plan to focus only on SUVs has worked like a treat for the brand. Its SUVs like the Seltos and Sonet have set the market on fire. The Sonet has done especially well competing with the likes of Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue etc. However, the competition has gotten quite fierce, and Kia could bring a facelifted model to propel the Sonet. In today’s article, let’s talk about Rs 8 lakh Kia.

Rs 8 lakh Kia – Design changes?

The Sonet already comes with quite a competent design, but Kia could give it some subtle design changes. Like the Seltos facelift, the Sonet facelift could get an extended DRL design. Kia could also enlarge the ‘Tiger Nose’ grille to enhance the look. Other changes could be a slightly different bumper and a new headlamp design. Also, Kia might give it a different alloy wheel design and new colours.

The Sonet already comes with the most engine and transmission options in its segment. So the facelift could continue with the same options. Currently, it comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated, 1.2-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Transmission options include manual and automatic gearbox options.

The Sonet is already the most feature-loaded car in this segment. Kia could look to take that one step further in the facelift. The facelifted model could get additional features like a fully digital instrument cluster, heads-up display, cooled glove box etc. Could Kia give it ADAS? Kia might after seeing what other manufacturers are doing in this segment.

Launch and pricing

Currently, Kia is looking to launch the Seltos facelift in India. If we look at Kia’s strategy, it generally brings a facelift model in 3-year intervals. The same happened with the Seltos and we could expect the same with the Sonet. The Sonet was launched in 2020, so Kia could unveil its facelift globally in 2023. India launch could happen by the end of 2023 or early 2024. What about the pricing? The Sonet facelift could get a price hike of Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000, depending upon the variants.
