The Innova is a car that needs no introduction. This car has justified Toyota’s renowned sense of reliability, performance and hassle free ownership. Launched initially in 2005, it has transformed itself throughout the years to stay at the top. After receiving various facelifts and a proper generation update in 2016, Toyota now sells the facelifted ‘Innova Crysta’ in India. But, now the Innova Crysta is soon to receive tough competition from another upcoming Toyota.
Innova Crysta competition -Innova HyCross
Toyota is set to unveil the new Innova HyCross in India. Launching with many first-ever goodies and modern features, this new generation car is likely to be a huge leap from the existing car. Toyota has fixed the date of 25th November to unveil the car in India.
A modular TNGA-C architecture underpins this new Innova HyCross. This being a monocoque setup would improve Hycross’ dynamics extensively. Other than this, Toyota has teased it several times, depicting its unmistakable Japanese MPV presence. It gets sleek headlamps, creases and cuts on the body lines and Toyota’s hexagonal grille pattern (seen on Hilux). The car has been spotted in Indonesia (without camouflage) and the same you can see below.
Innova Crysta competition -Features
Toyota has loaded the new Innova with plenty of features. Be it wireless charging, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, ottoman function for the second row, ambient lighting, or functional storage spaces, the Hycross is likely to get all of it. It seems that Toyota has understood that features play a pivotal role in contributing numbers on the sales chart.
Toyota could bring two petrol engine options in the Innova HyCross. A 2.0-litre pure petrol mill could be made available with the option of a manual transmission. On the other hand, it is also set to get a 2.0-litre strong hybrid engine probably with a CVT gearbox. One thing to note is that this 2.0-litre hybrid is to be the same Atkinsons cycle setup seen on the Urban Cruiser HyRyder but with an added 4th cylinder. (HyRyder’s hybrid is powered by a 3 cylinder 1.5-litre engine)
Price and launch
The wait is soon to end as the unveiling of the new Innova HyCross is just a week away. The Japanese automaker may also reveal its prices on the unveil date (25th of November). The starting price could range between 18-20 lakh (ex-showroom prices).
Innova Crysta competition is better?
The current Crysta sold like hotcakes with the 2.4-litre diesel engine. Now, as we are aware that Toyota has stopped taking diesel bookings and the petrol Crysta is naturally not capable of maintaining similar sales figures. Also, with this updated car coming into action with better features, a more efficient engine, better driving dynamics, a modern platform, etc, it boils down to the obvious smart choice. However, it could be pricier than the Crysta. Will you consider buying it?
