Tata has a varied set of options when it comes to its SUV portfolio. Its flagship SUV – Safari sold in commendable numbers until the Mahindra XUV700 launched. The latter car still persists as a major competitor raking in record sales. To counter this, Tata has a new plan to take on the Mahindra XUV700. However, this could eventually lead to an increment in Tata Safari prices. What could be the reason behind this?

Tata Safari prices to increase?

Tata Safari is often spied in a disguised avatar on Indian roads. This means that a new facelift version is yet to reveal with updated tech and design. As this Tata falls behind when compared to its rivals, the facelift update is likely to resolve it. We are expecting the feature list to mount with a 360-degree camera, bigger infotainment screen, ADAS and more. If we talk about the exteriors, it is touted to get updated headlamps, a new grille, reworked alloy wheel design and other usual upgrades seen on the facelift model.  Moreover, the suspension setup would also be tweaked to garner the offroad capabilities of the car. As it carries the ‘Safari’ badge, it must be true to its offroad-capable genetics. This plethora of updates would obviously come at a cost. This would be the reason why the Tata Safari prices would witness an increase.

What else to expect?

Just like what is expected to update in the Safari, the same will be carried forward on the Harrier. Both these cars are expected to receive the mentioned updates. This way Tata would improve both of its potential products. Already both these cars are offered in different iterations. Now, giving it a proper facelift update might rake in good sales figures for the brand. Moving under the hood, Safari and Harrier facelift might not get a petrol engine motor as our sources suggest the petrol Safari and Harrier are not currently on Tata’s priority list. However, later after the facelift update, we could see a petrol Safari and Harrier powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine making around 150bhp.

Pricing and launch

Tata might utilize the Indian Auto Expo 2023 to showcase their new facelifted models of the Safari and Harrier. Only then we can expect a proper launch in the first half of 2023. If Tata revokes to launch the Safari facelift with a petrol engine, the starting prices could witness a downfall. However, if it is launched with the existing 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel, prices will surely go up.
