Skoda is enjoying a decent sales period in the Indian market. Its India-centric ‘Project 2.0’ has uplifted the brand’s ambition in our market. The latest news of the Kushaq scoring 5-stars at GNCAP is another testimony to the brand’s ambition. However, one thing that continues to hurt Skoda is the absence of a diesel engine. Even with the stricter norms, people are still preferring diesel in the big SUV category. Skoda seems to have given up on diesel, but there is a way it can bring back diesel engines. How do you ask? In today’s article, let’s talk about Skoda diesel cars.

Volkswagen-Mahindra partnership

Before we talk about Skoda, we have to talk about the Volkswagen group as a whole. Earlier this year, Mahindra & Mahindra joined hands with Volkswagen to collaborate on Mahindra’s ‘Born Electric cars’. In this partnership, Volkswagen will be helping Mahindra by supplying MEB components. Why are we talking about electric cars in a diesel story? This partnership didn’t specifically mention this, but Volkswagen could maybe demand diesel engines from Mahindra in exchange. This will be a win-win situation for both brands, considering the prowess of Mahindra in diesel engines.

Skoda’s role

Skoda leads the India-centric ‘Project 2.0’ between Skoda-Volkswagen. So if Volkswagen Group can procure the diesel engine, Skoda could take a call of implying it in its newer cars. This will be quite helpful for both brands. Volkswagen-Skoda could get the 1.5-litre and 2.2-litre diesel engine.

Skoda diesel – What cars can get it?

So we have talked about everything, but which cars will get this diesel engine? First and foremost the Kushaq and Slavia could get them. The Kushaq with its 1.5-litre diesel engine could take the fight to the Hyundai Creta. Skoda can also use this engine on the compact SUV it is working on.
