The price of the Renault Duster has been dropped. The SUV had come under a lot of pressure lately, after the success of the Hyundai Creta. The launch of the Renault Captur had got buyers confused, as the price of the Duster and Captur was not very different. Owing to low volumes, Renault has decided to reposition the Duster, which has been their best seller before the arrival of Kwid.

The Renault Duster petrol now starts ₹ 7.95 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and the diesel version starts from ₹ 8.95 lakhs. The Petrol CVT variant is now priced at ₹ 9.95 lakhs. These are ex-showroom, Delhi prices. The repositioning of the Duster comes as a good news for several customers and Duster fans.

The dual headlamp cluster looks nice with chrome edging on the new Renault Duster. They are connected with parallel running lines at the centre with a large Renault Logo. The parallel lines are place on the age old honeycomb grill of the duster. The fog lamps are placed at the base of the bumper with a large silver cladding in the centre. The bonnet is flat on the new Renault Duster and the whole looks gives a feel of aggression with classiness.

There have not been major changes but the small ones are not insignificant either. There is a silver strip that runs along the running board adding to the up market feel. The indicators have moved their location to the rear view mirrors and looks great. The thing that will attract you the most are the matt black five spoke alloys with a thin silver lining running along the circumference. The roof rails have now gotten a really sleek Duster badging. This is a strange place for badging but the Duster manages to pull the looks off very well. The major difference at the rear is the tail lamp going full LED and the bumper getting a really large silver cladding. The thick chrome strip also has the Duster badging.

New Renault Duster AMT Interiors

Renault have decided to go all sporty with this car. The steering is leather wrapped with a tinge of red at the top. This is a typical Renault steering with three spokes and now comes with steering mounted controls. The instrument cluster has 3 circular pods one for tachometer other for speedometer and last for information regarding engine, temperature and fuel.

The rubber floor mats also have the Duster badging and a red lining to blend with the steering. The similar grey and red pattern is carried on to the seats. The dash is a mixture of grey and silver strips. The doors now have a long wood finish handles. The legroom is good at the front and the rear with a luggage tray covering the back and yet the Duster could carry more fuel than it appears. You also get an option to add jump seats for the 3rd row. There is enough leg room at the front and specially at the 2nd row. The Duster has generous seats with excellent thigh support. Now the Black and Red leather option look sporty and yet add sophistication to the interiors. The instrument cluster remains the same. The New Renault Duster AMT does not get leather seats either. The interior space is the same and the Duster has a spacious boot which makes it practical SUV to have. The New Renault Duster AMT can comfortably seat five adults.

New Renault Duster Mileage

Place Mileage (ARAI)
City 16.1 km/l
Highway 19.6 km/l
Overall 16km/l
Tank 50 Litres
Distance 800 km

Renault claims an efficiency of 16.1 km/l in city and 19.6 km/l on highway. Even IF we consider and efficiency of 16km/l and a 50 litre tank the duster can run for approx 800 km before stopping for a fuel stop. That is a great distance to travel for any vehicle.

New Renault Duster AMT Engine and Transmission

Engine 1461cc
Power 108.45 bhp @ 4000 rpm
Torque 245 Nm @ 1750 rpm
Transmission AMT

Performance wise the Duster is the same as the earlier one. The diesel engine is the K9K 1.5-litre dCi engine that comes in two states of tune: one is the 83bhp one that comes with a five-speed manual transmission and the other is a 108bhp engine that comes with a six-speed manual transmission. The New Renault Duster AMT is available only for a 108bhp version of the diesel engine. The petrol engine is a 1.6-litre one delivering 102bhp of power.

The 1400 cc mill now produces 108 bhp and that is a lot for this new Duster. The old 85 bhp could carry speeds with take years to get there. The 245 Nm torque and well placed gearshifts make the shifts smooth and seamless. I really am becoming appreciative of the performance.

New Renault Duster Ride and Handling

The New Renault Duster AMT is surprisingly a delight to drive. What came to notice instantly is that it responds well to throttle inputs. Drive with a heavy foot and the upshifts get delayed, thereby providing adequate power. The AMT is very easy to drive in the city. The good part is that the usual lag during shifts, that AMTs have, is reduced and is hardly felt while driving in a relaxed manner. Its only when you push the New Renault Duster AMT hard that the lag is evident.

Another impressive thing about the New Renault Duster AMT was that while driving in the manual mode, rev-limiter comes in to play only beyond 5000 rpm. This gives ample room to the driver for maneuvering the SUV as desired and is especially useful while driving in hilly areas and ghats. I would’ve preferred a slightly taller gear selector lever in the AMT. The lever in the New Renault Duster AMT feels a tad short and hence one needs to stretch out a bit more than normal, while driving in manual mode.

  • I am totally in love with the AMT variant. It’s been almost 15-20 days since I am driving it and the driving experience so far is amazing. The gearbox works really smooth and seamless. To make your drive cozy and pleasant, Renault has built in with premium interiors.
