While the launch of the Maruti Jimny 5 door is around the corner, Mahindra has also begun testing its Thar 5 door. This new upcoming Thar is likely to be more practical than ever with 5 door option, increased interior space and more. What else could the Thar 5 door get? Read below.
Mahindra Thar 5 door -Design
Mahindra will position the Thar 5-door above the 3-door version. Exterior design elements like front fascia and rear design largely could largely remain identical with tweaks to the alloy wheel design and increment in wheelbase(due to added rear door). Overall the 5-door version would be a spacious car for 5 passengers and ample boot space.

As Mahindra’s likely focus is in the practicality sector, we can expect more features than the 3-door version. As this car could be positioned below the Scorpio N, the brand might not give it all the bells and whistles but a few. Creature features that were missing on the 3-door version like a large glove box, dead pedal, reverse parking camera, single boot door, and more could be added to the new car.
Specifications
The 5-door version of the Thar is usually spotted testing on Indian roads. From the spotted images we can make out that it gets the same suspension setup as the Scorpio N. Moreover, reports also state it would use the tweaked version of the big daddy’s (Scorpio N) chassis. This insinuates that the engine options could also be like the latter. A 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre petrol engine are likely to be mounted.
Mahindra Thar 5 door -Launch and Pricing
Mahindra is likely to price the 5-door version more expensive than the existing model. The addition of features, a better engine, etc could be the obvious reason. We can expect it to start around Rs 18lakh (ex-showroom) when launched in India. Talking about the launch, it could be slated in the second half of 2023.
