Today, finally after months of speculations & waiting, the brand has finally unveiled its new compact SUV in Indonesia. The brand is calling it the new-generation WR-V. Honda has today unveiled the new-generation (second-get) of the WR-V. The previous-generation WR-V looked more like a crossover than an SUV, which was the reason for its sales not soaring in India. However, with the new WR-V, Honda seems to have rectified it. The new one clearly boasts of an SUV-like stance which is expected to be appreciated by the buyers of this category. This one is derived from the Honda RS SUV concept that was recently showcased during GIIAS.

Specifications

The Honda WR-V is 4060mm long, 1608mm tall & 1780mm wide. It offers a ground clearance of 220mm & sits on a 2485mm long wheelbase. The WR-V now offers a 380-litre boot space. This SUV is shares its platform with the Amaze that is sold in India. This is the reason why a lot of bits from the compact sedan can be seen in and around the car. This SUV is offered with 16-inch & 17-inch alloy wheels, depending on the variant. The regular WR-V E variant gets 16-inch alloy wheels, whereas the WR-V RS variant is offered with 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

Talking about its powertrain details, Honda has offered a 1.5-litre petrol engine capable of producing 119bhp & 145Nm of torque. For Indonesia, this engine has only been mated with a CVT gearbox. For India, we expect the powertrain & gearbox setup to be different, given the various taxation laws in the country on the basis of engine capacity, etc.

Honda has really focused on bringing essential features to this SUV. So, even the base variant gets features like 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, remote engine start-stop, reverse parking camera, LED indicators on ORVM, 4 speakers, etc. Higher variants gets additions like full LED headlamps with LED DRL, walk away auto lock, semi-digital instrument cluster, 6 speakers, automatic AC, leather-wrapped steering wheel, etc.

Talking about safety, Honda offers, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist, Vehicle Stability Assist, 4 airbags, etc. as standard. THe top-trim even gets Honda Sensing (Honda’s ADAS system) along with Lane Watch.

Pricing

Honda has priced the new WR-V from IDR 271,900,000 (roughly translates to Rs 14.36 lakh in India) & goes till IDR 309,900,000 (roughly translates to Rs 16.37 lakh in India). Do you think it is a good pricing?

India Launch

Now, Honda will most likely bring this SUV to India sometime next year. However, a few things would have to be changed. First, the overall length would have to be slightly shrinked to fit in the compact SUV segment. Second, the pricing would have to be taken care of because its current pricing puts it against the Hyundai Creta. So, we expect a starting price of somewhere around Rs 9 lakh (on-road) in the country.
