Overcoming all these hurdles, automakers are buckled up to launch some exciting products which can prove a bang for your buck. Here’s a list of new upcoming cars under Rs 20 lakhs!
MG Hector
The new upcoming Hector has been spotted multiple times in a camouflaged avatar. This only means that the car is near its launch timeline and the brand could soon unveil it by the end of this year. This new car is likely to get a price hike of Rs 1.5 to 2 lakh (ex-showroom price) due to the addition of new interiors, an updated 14-inch infotainment system, and more features.

Hyundai is likely to bring the new generation, Verna, to the Auto Expo 2023. This new generation car would be the most spacious Verna when compared to its predecessors. The feature list would also remain strong alongwith new interior design and more second-row space. The powertrain options are likely to be identical to the current model.
Maruti Jimny 5-door
It is undoubtedly the most anticipated car launch for a long time now. However, the wait is likely to be over and there are high chances that Maruti could unveil it at the Auto Expo 2023. This car would go toe after toe against established products like the Thar and Gurkha. This lifestyle-offroader segment would get a game-changing product due to its increased practicality, Maruti’s reliability and affordable spares.

Force has been spied testing the 5-door Gurkha in an undisguised avatar. Smelling competition with the upcoming Jimny, Force is also gearing up for a capable rival. It would be based on the same ‘C-platform’ which is used in the current 3-door Gurkha and powertrain options could also remain the same. The major change would be the addition of a rear door to accommodate 3 passengers at the rear. Moreover, Force could also give seating options in the third row. Mahindra Thar 5 door
Mahindra wants to go all in in the SUV segment. With over 5 SUVs in its portfolio, this brand wants to create its own dominance in this category. With the frequent spottings of the Thar 5-door, Mahindra is extending its ever-popular Thar range. This 5-door iteration would be more practical thereby increasing its VFM proposition. Moreover, it would continue to get a 4×4 drivetrain as well as a possible 4×2 variant to reduce its starting price.

Citroen has begun testing its new MPV which is based on the same CMP platform which the C3 uses. It could be a great competition to other rivals in the affordable MPV segment. The increased dimensions for accommodating the 3rd row of seating would necessitate Citroen to give the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. The feature list is also expected to mount over the regular C3 with features like wireless charging, rear charging ports, more cubby space, and more.
Maruti Baleno Cross
Maruti is gearing up to bring another SUV after the successful launch of the Grand Vitara. This new car is likely to get more features than the premium hatch ‘Baleno’ on which it is based on. However, we can expect an increase in the price due to the possible upgrades to the car. Maruti could unveil the car at the Auto Expo 2023, only then we can expect a proper launch in the following months.

Creta has always been at the peak in the C-segment SUV lineup. Hyundai’s constant will to update it by giving all the modern-day gizmos is the key to its success. Now, with the increasing number of competitors, Hyundai has felt the need to bring the Creta facelift to the Indian shores. It is likely to launch in the first half of 2023 and is likely to have features like all digital instrument clusters, 360-degree parking camera, front parking sensors, and more.

Honda is entering the compact SUV segment with its next launch. It has been prioritising this car for a while as this segment has been the most active. The Japanese automaker has to make it unique in one way or the other to gain some momentum over the already established market. In terms of features, it is likely to get a premium sound system, sunroof, digital instrument cluster, and more. It is expected to be launched before the festive season of 2023.
MG Air EV
After its launch, the MG Air EV could be the smallest EV on sale in the Indian market. The concept of this car is derived from the word ‘Kei’ which means microcar that is used majorly for intercity runs. For reference, this car would measure 2900mm in length with a wheel size of 12 inches. This car would seat 4 people with a minuscule amount of boot space. MG is likely to create a new segment with this new EV as the pricing is expected at Rs 10 to 12 lakh (ex-showroom).

Citroen has been spotted testing the C3 EV on Indian roads. The French automaker has also confirmed that it is planning to enter the EV segment in 2023. With the ongoing tests of the C3 EV, it is justifying that it could be the C3 EV. It is likely to have a 30+kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 300 kms. According to rumours, Citroen would unveil this car at the end of 2023.
